Gaz yep have found loads on ebay and 1 in local breakers problem is ,nobody will give any PROPER warranty or guarantee. they will give money back if engine is no good, but not the £400 labour charge it will cost to remove old engine and fit replacement.and then remove it again and re-fit another. Exchange re-built engine is £1000 ish.( + £400 fitting) Repair existing engine is not economical ( snapped timing chain and damaged head) i am trying to think of another way. its my lads van , and he is not exactly loaded. steve

risky business steve, ive been stung with a few engines and a gearbox in my time, every time i said to my self never again, idealy its nice to see and hear the engine in smashed uo van in a breakers yard atleast that way you also get a indication of how many miles its ATCUALY done.
have you looked into how much a new short engine is at ford?

I had a fiat scudo 1.9 turbo diesel and it blew up (57,000 miles)! Turned out i had cracked the head (combination of stuck thermostat and blown cylinder head gasket) between one of the exhaust valves and the combustion chamber, the engine had to be dropped and a new head was fitted with new cam belt to boot total cost £750 it lasted till i sold the van 178,000 miles (the head that is 2 new cam belts too).
i have a 'mate' (works in a localish garage) who does all my work and i send friends to him too, i think that you need to get a re-poor going with a garage and stick with him through thick and thin.
only trying to help....
