Getting closer to completing the rebuild on my 31K LC2 . . .
I've just recently de-rusted (Deox-C) and lined (POR15) my fuel tank.
Someone in the bikes past has welded in a strip of what looks like 1mm steel repair around the fuel tap location.
Unfortunately, the repair does not have the same alignment as an original, which, when the (gen Yam) fuel tap is fitted, makes the fuel tap sit too far out to fit the side panel.
I'm not sure what can be done about this, so am looking for some ideas/advice...
I'm wondering if I will be able to grind back some of the repair metal along one side of the fitting to bring the tap more 'in line' with where it should be. I guess the alternative would be to hammer the metal back to achieve the same.
Suggestions and ideas gratefully received!!

Weld the holes up and redrill if it’s not painted. Not sure how that will effect the liner? I’d go to the trouble of relining at this stage to sort it properly.

Thanks for the suggestion Jon.
It's the plate that's been welded in at the wrong 'angle' causing the tap to be further outwards than it should be, so I don't believe re-welding, drilling and tapping would help - unless building up the outer edge to compensate. I'm also unable to weld, and don't have access to welding kit.
Agreed on the re-lining.
