Hi everyone, I need some advice about what parts could contain asbestos as I am relocating from NZ to Australia who have banned asbestos since 2003 and I need to declare that to the best of my knowledge my bikes don't have it. There are a few Aussie guys on here, have any of you recently imported bikes and how was the process? Parts of concern are exhaust gaskets, base/clutch gaskets, exhaust packing and clutch plate lining material. Bikes are 1981 RD350LC and 1986 RZV500R. I have replaced brake pads and shoes over the years for more modern materials and if I had any doubts they are easy just to remove them. Does anyone know if or when Yamaha used or stopped using asbestos in parts? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

If unrestored (original) maybe brake pads/gaskets and clutch friction plates. Mark

I very much doubt there is any in the gaskets.
They are a fibrous material coated and impregnated with some kind of rubberised stuff.
Aren’t friction plates cork?
Old pads maybe? But unlikely to be original looking at these two bikes.

I have some pads in the packet marked with the A asbestos warning logo and that's where they are staying. Liking the EL5IE number plate 😆

Well... I dont know about those bikes.... but I can tell you for sure that the 85 250 with the 51L engine has an asbestos gasket that seals the silencer to the muffler. I bought a new one and it has Asbestos warnings on the packet.... a gasket bought in Aus...
Hmm, not sure about the 500s gaskets in the same area, same era. But yours doesnt run OEM pipes anyway...
Either way, I doubt very much that would be picked up, same bike is sold here etc. Most declarations are about wirings, brake pads, clutch linings etc etc
