Hi any suggestions for getting the main stand, spring and spindle on. I can't see me being able to pull back against the spring in order to locate the main stand spindle. Ideas please

Connect spring to frame and stand without the spindle in place. Then use the stand to lever the spring until the stand aligns with the spindle holes, then pop the spindle in. Much easier this way.

I recently used the washers in the spring to good effect. Think someone here mentioned it.

Yep washers between each of the coils, I used M10’s, thin enough to insert between the coils but thick enough to lengthen the spring, I think I used about 15 of them, I then rotated the stand and most fell out, those that didn’t I just used long nose pliers to extract them
You’ll need to alternate the side of the spring you put the washers in to keep it straight though
If you put them all in on one side the spring will bend and still not fit
I put one end of the spring in a vice then bent it up and down to insert the washers, that extended the spring sufficiently to fit it on the lugs
I did try not putting the pivot bolt in, however, for me that nearly ended with dusted knuckles and chunks out of my fingers and the freshly powdered frame

You can also use a spring puller, like those used for exhaust springs.
Ive often found that with a stand not bolted in place you can put the spring on the frame end and pull stand down and then put in the pivot bolt.

Hi thanks for suggestions, I used a racket strap in the end, worked really well, required no real effort on my part and more importantly no damage to me!
