Apart from different brassware and jetting I believe that the air correction circuit was modified in the later carbs.

4l0-00 air correctors originally draw air from the bellmouth but the turbulence really f***ed them up. Theres a Yamaha recall modification needed - to block off the bellmouth passage and drill a new passage - makes a huge difference(I know from personal experience) 4L0-01 have a different passage and the bellmouth passage is blocked with brass ball.

big differences between the carbs, you certainly can't mix and match the internal parts (other than the floats and needle valves !)
early carbs (4L0-00) unmodded are different to early carbs modded early carbs modded or unmodded are diffrent to the later carbs (4L0-01)
The main differences are;
Needle jets Needles Main jets Pilots Air Corrector jet size (fixed) Air Corrector circuit Air Screw settings
Think that's about it

Once completed, what internals will I need to fit? I have a refurb. Set from cruzin immage but not sure if they will work for my early model carb, once done.

Once you have done the 4L0 00 mod then Yam recommend.. Emulsion tubes type 345-0.6 Standard needles type 4H16. Fitted 3rd clip down. Main jets 160 Pilot jets 25 or 27.5 Air screw set 1 turn out Float valves set to 21mm A few people have had issues with Cruzin Image stuff. I'd go for genuine from Allens Performance or Norbo or Muttsnuts if they have in stock.

i have a pair of carbs off my 250LC I'm restoring which are marked 4L3.
The internals are as per the posts above:
NJ 0-6 MJ 195 PJ 22.5 2.0 cutaway
however the std 4N10 needles weren't there and a pair of what look like Cruisin Image needles were fitted.
I must point out that this bike was used for racing and fitted with 32mm Mikunis and YZ80 Reed valves so I never ran it with these Carbs/needles.
Question is are the standard 4N10 OEM needles still available ?
Also the choke arrangement on the RH carb has the usual pipe connecting to the LH carb between the two stubs but the stub on the RH carb has another stub on the opposite side which is open to atmosphere - should this be blanked off ?
