Hello forum, I think I’m getting to the end of my ability with my 1983 31K and am thinking about taking it to an expert to sort it
I won’t rehash everything I’ve done to it, long story short it runs too rich and won’t pull past about 7000rpm.
I’ve done all the usual stuff and followed lots of excellent advice; problem is I’m an amateur and I think the bike needs an experts touch.
Now, I’m in sunny Hampshire so a trip to Mutts (the obvious choice) would be prohibitively expensive in terms of getting the bike there and back so can anyone point me at someone a bit more local who knows their stuff?
As always, Thanks 🙏

Now I’m not going to detract from anyone else however. Dave absolutely knows these bikes and has the benefit of a dyno. Yes you’d need someone like Kopite to collect it but if he’s doing runs to Dave’s with other bikes you can save a bit of cash. However for me you know that Dave will nail it quickly and efficiently whereas others may take far longer and charge you accordingly so is it any cheaper? Just thoughts for consideration. I’m Midlands based south Leicestershire and my bike goes to Dave every time.

Thanks Veg, it’s a decent shout I’ll ping Kopite and see what it’d cost to get the bike to Mutts - as I said he’s the obvious choice, it’s just the cost of getting it there.

There is a price to get your bike to Mutts.... but you'll get it fixed and thats priceless when you cant fix it your self. Shame you dont have a van...always handy for things like this, I'll never be without one! (kopites prob cheaper as he might be carrying multiple drops!)

Hello forum, Dave is a very busy man, I'll keep tinkering myself while I'm waiting for some space in his very busy diary.
Keeping my options open, has anyone get any other recommends or indeed avoids in the meantime?

It sounds much like an issue with the carbs, so could you just send the carbs to Dave for a refurbish? Or maybe borrow a good set to confirm this is the issue??

Thanks everyone, sound advice as always.
I’m away on a job for the next 5 weeks or so so I’ll take my Haynes with me for a bit of light reading and mull it over.
I’ve cleaned and checked the carbs more than once (balls out etc) so maybe sending just them for a sonic clean and professional once over may be a good plan. At least that would eliminate them from the equation.

I think you mentioned that one pot was running poorly, yet the other pot was running ok with a decent plug colour?
Did you try switching the carbs around, left to right? Block the balance pipe.
If the problem moves, you know it is that carb that has some sort of issue, maybe still a blocked circuit?
Sorry if this is old ground..

It's a two stroke twin with conventional simple carburettors, it can't be that difficult to get it sorted out, lots of people with knowledge, ability and experience, I'd sort it out but I'm miles away and also very busy (had to postpone my NS475 build),
Surely there's someone on here local to the op that can help ?

Hi again,
Just realised that I've helped about as little as everyone else,
I have a spare set of YPVS F2 carbs, they came off my own bike when I fitted PWK,s they were working fine with just a tiny bit of four stroking at around one eighth throttle open (typical RD), you are welcome to loan them to confirm that it's a carb problem,
Let me know if you want to try them, I'll just ask that you return them to me when you have tried them,
I'll pm my email
