You're right...it's not good! Can't get a replacement door as the oven is obsolete so I need a new one. For now I'm going to 'construct' a front door with tin foil...

I had the same in one of my rentals, happened first time after I paid a company to clean it. Luckily my tenant wasn't stood next to it at the time, hope nobody injured in your case.
Was cheaper to replace than fix, paid £95 for new one (with fan) at one of those returns warehouses, and got a 6 month guarantee.

Get down the tip and scrounge around for one off a scrapper....cut to size. Reuse, recycle, save the planet.
If its just an outer door, f*** it and carry on using it, just dont let the dog sniff it whilst your nut roast is in it...

I'll tell you how it happened. I cooked dinner, ate it then was doing the washing up when KABLAMMO! No humans/cats/dogs or field mice were hurt during this incident.
Steve, there are no scrappers anymore. Well, not here anyway. I could claim on insurance but a new oven is about £200. However it needs wiring into the mains and that means getting someone in to do the job. No way would I attempt this. I'll do a bit of ringing about tomorrow and see what a quote is.

Its as easy to wire as it is to do a plug, just thicker cables. I don't think you need to be an electrician to install these.

I think if any wiring is done in a kitchen ...it has to be done by an "electrician" nowadays?? Insurance and all that bollix?? You may find a door Alex... You may get lucky.

Eeek, glad youre ok Alex! Scary stuff. Are none of the UK ovens fitted with a plug these days? I know my Euro made 15 year old oven has one here in Aus as I had to get it out to cut out the top bigger for the large gas hob we had fitted. I simply slid the oven out (couple of screws holding it to the cupboard sides once door is open) and pulled the plug... reassembly is reverse of removal

"School of Spice" is open for take away's mate - best curry in Shepperton ! It's either that or salad !! I will keep an eye out on my travels - people often upgrade when refurbing a kitchen and single ovens are often given away to make room for a new one. Dusty

As Jonw said
Check it's not got a 13a standard plug on it
Most single ovens are like that
Only when you go to doubles or a high powered one is it likely to need hard wired
Usually 4 screws going into the front of the cabinet. Slides straight out
Toughened glass is a fecker when it pops

Thanks lads. The first thing I did was google parts suppliers, including the one Steve suggested. 15 of them had the door...but none available as this oven is over 30 years old! It doesn't have a plug, it's wired into the wall. Cheers for keeping an eye out Dusty, anything that works would be good, though new ones can be had for about £200. The issue is in getting a qualified sparky to come along and fit it. Might have to go through my insurance if all else fails.
One good thing...I wanted to use it tonight so I wrapped the door in foil, and everything worked perfectly, no excess heat coming through. So for now...I can eat lol.

The world has gone nuts... 3 colour coded wires. I blame the millenials. paying a call out for a sparky to switch the power off and swap 3 wires and switch the power back on depresses me, plus it could take weeks to get one. Welcome to the new world.

Red, yellow, blue, and black (N)..Old phase colours. Now replaced with Euro colours (20yrs ago) Brown, grey, black, and blue (N)
So on pre 2001 ish jobs we have wire containment with 240V on black conductors and other black conductors acting as Neutral..... And 240V on blues and other blues as Neutral.
Everyone thought it was utter madness at the time... yes jonw, it's nuts. And our Institute of Electrical Engineers went along with it....
Jobs wired with old colours will be around a long time......longer than EU influence on colour codes or compliance!

Welcome to the new world. Might be the ‘rules’ ...but so is the 70 mph speed limit !.... if it’s community building or tenanted....need to be a bit mindful of requirements...but in your own home.....rules is one thing and confidence to do a job is another.... like you said....an oven is just three wires...

Alex I had one go in exactly the same way. Put it down to hot inside and cold outside. I’ve had about 4 ovens over the last 26 years. All had 32amp cable to attach. The last one was only 13amp. It worried me until I spoke to someone in the know. Jon

Single phase in a house used to be red-live, yellow and green-earth and black-neutral. Jon

Yes
Your house should now be brown for live and blue for neutral
The thing is should the 3 coloured phases not have a section of brown sleeving on them to identify them
Like when a lighting circuit is wired either loop in at the light fitting or junction box you should really sleeve the black switch wire in red sleeving (like what never happens 😂)
Same at a 2 way or intermediate switch with the blue and yellow pass wires ("strappers" for the older sparkies)

Whatever they use now and in the future it will never be worse than either the old conduit V.I.R. cable, the lead sheathed cable or the later TRS sh1te
