There's an article in vjmc magazine suggesting it could be possible to change from a q to age related, just trying to sort images

Thats interesting Bri, for years it was always that DVLA would basically 'just say no'.
Having read that... I dont think its going to be easy to get rid of the Q on one of our bikes. If you read through the requirements some of the things asked are not easy to find. ie the Month of manufacture. Also the initial line where it says '12 months from initial registration', that sounds like it is to account for complaints after registration etc, not for something 15-25 years after the Q was issued.
I think what it is saying is that they will no longer 'just say no', but will consider each request on its own merits, but... be damn sure you can prove the age of as many parts as possible and back this up with photos and certification/letters from someone trusted if you want to have a good chance. Getting the Q off a hybrid LC with a big bore YPVS based engine and something like RGV front and rear ends; no way. But if you fully restore an LC with all OEM parts common to the year of production as much as possible and have some kind of expert say its a faithful OEM resto, then possibly they will age related plate it again. You'll just thru hoops, but if a full resto if the plan it may well be worth doing?

As Jon says you may have a chance with a matching numbers all original bike with a dating letter from Yam as that gives a month
As soon as you have a different engine number the dating letter states it's not original and from a different year

My pennies worth is that if really nice LC2's are selling for £6/7/8,000 then one with a Q reg is always going to be worth less than that the same as a non UK one is worth less than a UK one and matching numbers is worth more than non matching numbers etc. but....it's not going to be worth just £1,000 or £2,000 is it? more like £2,000/£3,000 less than the top priced examples. I'm talking about what they would sell for or what you would need to spend to buy it. Not what it's worth to any individual. We all have our ideas of what things are worth to us. I for instance would never pay more than £100 for a GT380, orrible things I would have it as a basis for a track bike. I have a German 4L0 frame with lots of brackets missing that if I live long enough will be a track bike. It must be quite liberating not having to worry about things like lights and charging, indicators, brake lights and switchgear Still have to worry about silencing though. Seems odd that you could probably get away with a louder bike on the road than at Cadwell. I have the German documents for the frame but no NOVA. I guess it could be registered at some time.

That's £100 more than I'd pay for a GT380, as for GT185s, you'd have to pay me to take it away.
Anyway, I'm now pondering whether to chop the fairing brackets off my F1 frame (to make it look like an LC2 frame), build the bike as an F1 selling the kidney clocks and fairing mounting bracket I got with the frame, or leave the frame alone but build it with an LC2 fairing and belly pan (I know the lower fairing mounts are a bit too wide for the belly pan)
Chopping the brackets off a good, solid F1 frame feels like something I shouldn't be doing, as it will make the frame worth less, and it just feels wrong to be cutting parts off a good frame.
I'm really good at making things complicated for myself.

Be honest if you’re going to the trouble of building a bike up I would start with a LC2 frame with paperwork, nova or reg number wont be easy to find but worth it in the long run

I asked around the other week as a mate was considering a project
Frames are thin on the ground now and prices are climbing
As a favour to me alone f1 matching frame/cases with NOVA and German doc was £650
LC2 was £700
He'd sold a really nice LC2 frame/cases for £1000 the week before 😱

The money was so poor that they were going to give him he dragged it out again. I'd have left it there. There is one thing worse than a GT185 and that's a GT125. I had one....I think. I can't remember if I actually bought it. I think I did and it was £15. You know when you block traumatic events from your memory?

Do a completed listing search on ebay for rd frames and see the closest one to yours. From memory when I last looked, an ex racer standard frame should be circa £150 complete so not worthless and cut up into sections may be less if ALL the lugs are defective
