The pics I took when stripping the engine show the previous bore looked central, even all the way round, so it appears its been done off centre, will go back tomorrow and ask for re fund for re bore and return the plus 2 pistons which will be best part of £200.if my barrels can be re lined how much will that cost? If you get your money back from the job, I would be more concerned about the waiting time for relining rather than the cost. I've had first hand experience of a constantly expanding customer base, while I still only have one pair of hands.

Did they hand them back to you in that state without commenting at all about breaking the liner? I think even a novice would look at them with the bits missing and ask what went wrong? Re-lining isn't cheap but at least you know that it'll be a virgin size, other option is a S/H set with unknown history and needing a re-bore..............

That's better. I just had a look on a big monitor and I can a couple of the issues. The chamfer on the bottom of the liner that works as a lead in for rings seems to have gone on at least one side of one cylinder. That can be put back with a file. They appear to have taken more out of the front than the back of the cylinder. I have heard and would have thought that if anything the most metal should be out of the back to avoid the power valve area where the liner is already thin. I can see the bit of liner missing where the transfers are at the bottom. As I said before some tuners cut them down anyway. All the ports do want chamfering. A mate of mine had an X7 bored out and just put it back together. It sounded terrible but we just stripped it and chamfered the ports and it was OK. On the plus side; heat transfer through the liner into the aluminium and then the water should be quick as the liner is now so thin After all if they were Nikasil or something similar it would only be microns thick As I said I would take them to someone who does two stroke tuning near you, ask for an opinion and see if they can do anything with them. My opinion is if you go down the legal road with the people who did the rebore for you then the best you can expect is a refund of the cost of the rebore which is worth having but in the grand scheme of things is small fry. I can't see you getting any money off them for a new set of barrels. It would be nice if you did but I just can't see it. I presume you have also paid out for a set of pistons as well? £50 for them and the pistons if you decided to give up Sorry, please forgive me. You're probably not in the mood for humour

Went back to T&L Today and got a re fund for the bore and returned the pistons, the fella there was as nice as pie didn't argue at all just said the previous bore was off centre, almost felt like he was expecting me to come back. Off up to Wolverhampton tomorrow to see Paul at PJs.

I know it's not ideal for you but it would be good to see the whole process of having new liners fitted to YPVS cylinders. Mine are either +0.5 or even 1mm so It might be a road I have to head down myself when the time comes. I'm trying to keep a one track mind and get my LC sorted and not think about the YPVS engine but sooner or later it will need to be dealt with.
I know a few LCs have had liners fitted, some 250 to 375 conversions as well but I've not seen a YPVS. I guess there are some? Good results?

That’s a shame they done a poor job, I’ve had quite a bit of work done by them over the years with out any issues, I’ve not used them for 18 months or so though, perhaps the old machinist retired.
Good luck with rebuild.

I'm not gonna slagg T&L off, they are probebly very good at what they do most of which I think is vintage car stuff, they don't specialise in 2 stroke bike engines like PJ does. I do think they should have consulted me about it though not just plough on to 2mm over and hand them back without a word. Anyway been to see Paul today and Im now happy they are in the right place.

They were reasonable coz they got away lightly - they've f**ked up your barrels with that rebore. You could have been banging on their door for more than just your money back. Still, Paul is the man to put it right, and when you get them back you'll be ready for summer Dusty
