I am about to take delivery of an RD250LC and was advised that the monoshock could do with being replaced.
Can people tell me how easy as job it is please?
I have Google searched but can find a specific guide and the Haynes manual is a bit vague.
Also which shock is recommended.
There is a YSS one on Yambits in black or red at £244 and I have seen some very expensive Nitron ones but don't really want to spend £500.
Thanks

I bought a yss from mutts a while back and it was cheaper than that price from shambits. A very good replacement shock IMO. Fairly straightforward to fit as well 👍🏻

I use YSS. They are good for the money. There are more expensive options available, but unless you are Rossi, you may not be able to tell the difference.

What about setting it up and adjustment? all i done was extend the adjuster collar out a few threads to raise the rear a tad, went out and rode it about and played with the rebound adjuster until it felt right for me. half an hour and it was done.

I've had Yss and Nitron. Difference is Nitron build bespoke for your weight and riding style/pillion etc, and Yss are straight out of the box, as is. The Nitron is top quality for sure, but if it were my money, the Yss would get my vote, purely on value. The difference in price between the 2 buys a lot of other parts, and the Yss is adjustable, rebuildable, has a 2 year guarantee and is very well made and finished really well. Got my last one from Mutts too, better price than anywhere else Dusty

I also had the new, revamped Hagon monoshock - looks much classier now than they used to ! Yss still wins it though for VFM

I’ve a WP one, was v expensive but bought it for the bling factor as much as anything, tbh I’d go yss yes the more expensive shocks probably give you more refinement however we are talking about a 40 yr old bike with a relative weak chassis.
