I've won a YPVS frame on eBay to replace the Q reg frame my bike currently has, what's involved in swapping the engine numbers on the V5s, I haven't swapped an engine since 1985, and then it was a simple case of sending the log book off with the new engine number, I suspect it's a bit more work now.

The registration is to the chassis/frame number the engine is not deemed as important so if the new chassis has a v5 you’re good to go. Ps, bought not won 😁👍

AFAIK you'll need an "engineers" report or letter from the garage/shop that fitted the engine. Easy to do just ask your local friendly bike mechanic to right one for you. OEB

I’ve never had to nor have done that. Always just filled in a v5 change form.

From Dvla.gov.Uk website What evidence to give
You must give DVLA evidence or written confirmation if you make any of the following changes to your vehicle. Your V5C update will be rejected if you do not.
Change of engine number or cylinder capacity (cc) You need to provide either:
a receipt for the replacement engine written evidence from the manufacturer an inspection report provided for insurance purposes written confirmation on headed paper from a garage (if the change took place before you bought the vehicle)

I’ve never had to nor have done that. Always just filled in a v5 change form. I'll probably try that first and see what happens, the motor needs rebuilding, and I will probably put new crank seals in it as, having taken the head off, I can see that the left hand cylinder has been detonating.

I already own the engine as it's from the Q reg YPVS I've already got, could I write myself a receipt? I'm probably best off contacting the DVLA and asking them

Well that was massively unhelpful, went through an automated process which will send me an email where I can give the DVLA some details.

Officially you just need a letter from the local MOT station confirming the engine number and capacity of the replacement engine fitted which i've done a few times with no issues ( No receipts needed ). As with anything DVLA related though it all depends on which jobsworth gets your application. I've mates who have simply just sent the V5 off with change of engine number like it used to be and some who have included their own written note and they all got the change on the V5.

Never bother, I’ve a couple of engines that get swapped around when the inevitable happens.
