Hello chaps, can anyone shed some light on this type of bike. It's from 1979. What are the weak points and strong points? Is it easy to get engine spare parts etc.

Im fairly into enduro ( or was). they were never a particularly popular bike but werent bad but its smaller brothers were fantastic bikes and were strong competitors in their classes and very popular (kdx 175 and 250). i had a 175 and it was good fun and capable with no weak points. you could still get nos spares from kawasaki too . if you were planning on doing vinduro they would work well enough but i dont know whether i would want to use one for trail riding or anything like that. kdx rider.net is probably your best source of info too.

Thanks Fletch, it turns out this one has been made into a "Steve Mcqueen Husky" replica which has put me off a bit. Apparantly its running but needs attention. Not sure if i want to go and have a look now. I wanted something retro fun for the Rotterdam Dirt Ride. The LC is ok for the sprints if its dry but terrible for the offroad coarse.
I will take a look at the KDX site

Tony I worked in a kwak dealers in mid to late 80’s these were a rare beast then as said above the smaller ones were far more popular. As they were rare and I believe had a limited life span I’d look at somewhere like cmsnl or such for spares availability I reckon you’ll be hard pushed for parts, also as a competition bike it’s likely to had a pretty hard life then no doubt ragged about as it became uncompetitive. 25 yrs ago I bought a 1980 ktm 250 it was a beautiful bike so well made I wanted to super moto it, but I couldn’t get new ignition system even then.

Yes there's not much to find, probably why it's cheap. What i'd really like is an old Greeves.
