Hi Guys Can someone explain to me why you would want a 350 front end on a 250? Thanks Twin discs would be the main reason.

Better brakes is the obvious answer?

To add 4kg to slow it down a bit and make it quicker to stop!

I converted my proddie 250 to a 350 with a set of new oem barrels with Stan Stevens Production Race tune from new.
Single front disk helped my speed round the Mallory hairpin no end as I couldn`t stop the fecker. Chuck it in and pray .Got trophy for best newcomer at meeting for that.
( sold that bike for buttons in 1995, two race meeting only on those barrels, straight cut primaries, motoplat, sob)

I put Stephens production tuned barrels on a standard 250. Standard including the single disc and 41 tooth back sprocket. It was lively. The brakes were shockingly bad. I would not ever contemplate using a standard single disc 250 set up. On another 350 I fitted a single TZ disc (20mm bigger than an LC disc) and a Lockheed twin piston caliper. The idea being that the TZR had just come out and that had only one disc. So lighter bigger disc. Should be as good as a twin disc 350 right? Nah, pretty rubbish as well 😁 Going back to standard discs and calipers. When I bought my 350 brand new I thought the brakes were awesome. I've gone straight on at Cadwells Club Hairpin with my back wheel 3 feet in the air with that set up. I would have lost enough speed to get around if I hadn't been trying to go past my braking marker by another 20 feet 🤡

The bits that makes me wonder is really that its so easy to add the 2nd disk and caliper as the work was done for us for the fixings by yam so they bolt right on. Very few bikes allow that.

With kr or the Mich TF tyres. And bit the dust at Cadwell hairpin twice! after lock ups. A tin a day keeps the u/s brakes away.... www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2X765g-NATCO-SPINACH-LEAF-SPINACH-LEAVES-TIN-PACK-PALAK-LEAF-LEAVES-28oz/143698756633?hash=item21751d0419:g:1swAAOSw6NNfQ8Gt

Terry Shepherd had taken pity on 19 year old me after I turned up on his doorstep with a broken crank and buggered barrels from "Enthusiastic" over-revving racing at Three Sisters.
He realised I was clueless when I revealed I was using touring compound Metzler tyres . ( After the initial shock of how slow I was compared to everyone else, dug in and started to improve and qualify for the "B" finals. I have pics of me in my 70`s Barry Sheene rep leathers with a woolly pully on top hanging off the wrong side super moto style to deal with the slides and get some speed out of the corners)
I`d watched the Pro Am on TV and thought "I can do that". I new nothing about racing and neither did any of my mates, no internet in 1984.
Terry sorted me out with discounted gear, decent brake pads from Charlie Williams , single disk worked OK initially but was prone to fade...
He got me some discounted boots from Tommy Rob, to replace the MX boots I`d been using.
I had no idea who these people where back then. I`d be star struck today.

Maybe needed an overahaul? While we're on the subject I've just been stripping an F2 caliper and once more I'm confronted with pistons that have been removed with pipe grips. I bought them off eBay so I have no idea who it was but anyone who uses any type of grips, Stilsons, pipe grips or Vicegrips, on brake pistons should have their fingers cut off in my opinion so they can never work on a motorbike again.

I've just taken a Michelin TF11 off an LC front wheel that been in my possession since about 1985. It looked in good condition with no visible signs of being about 40 years old........... unlike me. Closer to 60

The big single disk and calliper on the TZR250 worked really well.
I had no complaints with mine racing with BEMSEE and New Era at Cadwell. I did have a big lockup going into the hairpin, thinking it was the last lap, but it wasn't. What an idiot!
Had some great races against all-comers at Cadwell. I loved the track so much, I would enter any class. Had a great race with a Ducati Supermono, the Chrysalis BMW single, some pro's on CB500s etc etc. All good fun.

Closer to 60 If I remember rightly, they were road legal as well? They used to really "chewing gum up" and worked well.

Closer to 60 If I remember rightly, they were road legal as well? They used to really "chewing gum up" and worked well. It did say 'NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE' on it. I can't recall where the wheel came from. A mate of mine bought something of a guy in York, Auto 66 250LC production champion I think he was, there was a pair of bright green wheels thrown in with the deal and I ended up with them. But that was on a different wheel. I used a KR on the front and a TG22 on the back. The TG let go big style on me on Park Corner in 1984 and I went skywards over the high side. I spent 4 days in Louth County Hospital with a compound wrist fracture. I blame that bl@@dy Michelin! It gave me a preview at Elvington a couple of weeks before that I managed to save and it looked quite impressive but there was no saving that one!!! Basically we just fitted what everyone else did!

I just got something wrong somewhere. I had a F1 YPVS master cylinder and a Lockheed twin pot caliper with a home made 10mm stainless mounting bracket. The lever had very little travel but it just didn't really bite. Maybe should have had the 250 cylinder. Or maybe it was the pads? I still have it so I could have another go but I've just in the process of refurbishing the 4L0 calipers and I have RGV calipers and an F2 valve front end with calipers. Someone has butchered the pistons on the F2 though so it's about £60 a side to sort that out and I've just bought the 4L0 stainless re-build kit. It's only money eh? 😭
