I have a just purchased a '82 model, standard airbox and pipes, and when I cleaned the carbs in an ultrasonic bath a ball fell out. I then noticed it had come from the air jet hole and must have been lose. The other carb still has the ball fitted.
The pilot jet is a 20 and the main a 160 and when i look through the forum that looks more like a 350LC jetting.
So before I go fitting the ball back can anyone confirm if it should be fitted for the 250LC Carbs as I would hate to fit it and then have to remove it again?
Also is 160 main jet correct as it sound low compared to other peoples settings.
It is possible a dealer modified the carbs thinking it is a 350 and therefore I will need to go back to correct setting and that is where I hope someone can help.
Thanks

Firstly check your carbs are both marked 4L1 00 on sides. If 4L0 then you have 350 carbs and you will struggle to get a good set up. Standard settings for 4L1 00 is 190 main, 20 pilot, clip position 4 down from top, air screw 1.125 turns out. usually a good start point. Check needles are 4N10 type. Use gen parts ideally lots of bad copies.
Yes the big ball needs to go back in. Use a small amount of loctite to hold it in but not enough to block the passage behind it. While yr at it remove the balls on both carbs and the emulsion tubes and put through an ultrasonic and ensure that passage and the emulsion tubes are clear before reassembly. Good luck with it, fiddly but we'll worth it.
