Hi has anyone got a good write up on how to set up the ypvs system , the engine is out so I don’t have any electrics . I’m guessing both exhaust valves should always be in the same position , I have one fully open and one slightly closed , is it possible to put them in wrong way round .

If they are misaligned then either the valves or worn on the ends or the joining piece is knackered
There is a flat on the end of the valve so is either joined or not. You can't have one one way and one the other without being knackered

The valves are both connected in the middle by a linkage and a pulley for the YPVS cable, You can adjust the PV openings and alignment at the pulley, There are 2 screws on the side, open them and you can rotate the valves and align them, Slide 2 bolts or drill bits into the alignment holes on the sides of the barrels and set the valves or do it by eye, tighten up and you are good to go

Plus, when rebuilding, I never use the crank timing in the manual, This is from the Yamaha race settings for the 500. Engine is a lot smoother, less bar buzz.
