They ruined Devils Elbow with that bus stop chicane.... But the bus stop will have saved some competitors. Bikes have outgrown some tracks with their outright speed and modern tyres. Thankfully the other two chicanes Charlies and Edwenas? were'nt on the drawing board when I went there.
Gerards was best corner I ever went round... fantastic! (No chicanes)

There was an RG250 when I started in 1984. I was worried it would sail past my standard ish 350 but the opposite happened so all good. The common assumption is it's a road thing, you can take left handers on the road a lot more like you do on a race track than right handers. I think I only did Mallory maybe three times. My first race I was lapped by the winner on or near the line on the last lap. I did my last lap anyway cos I paid for it I think I had a third there once later but like most thing from that period it's s bit hazy There's all kinds of esses and things there now I think. Very simple back in 1985. Rode a YPVS in 1985. It was one of the fasted out there but there was a guy on a 4L0 about 2" off my back light every time I looked back. Very off-putting There was no bus stop when I was there (again I don't think). Flat from the hairpin and chuck it left, bum cheeks nipping. I don't recall if I ever didn't back the throttle just that little bit After my 'retirement' I went there in my role as Transit van owner/driver and beer sampler, great days. Coppice at Cadwell is great/scary as well. Left hander up the hill after the bottom straight. We used the club hairpin so flat from the hairpin, chuck it left. Easy from the hairpin, not easy when using the full straight

(No chicanes) I never quite knew what to do and where to be on Gerards. I'd find myself on the inside just following the barrier around and tell myself to turn in later next lap The right left at the back was interesting. Had a tyre wall a couple of feet off to the left. Seen a YPVS going into that at a decent speed. The hairpin was interesting after 100 rusty oil leaking race vans had driver across it to get into the paddock I was always convinced that Carnaby was a copy of Mallory Park, big sweeping corner, chicane, hairpin, left, right, finish line.

On a GSXR400 on the full circuit it was accelerate as hard as you can out of Barn, aim for the tree and roll off the throttle a bit for Coppice, I was in 5th, so about 125mph, then knock it down a gear for Charlies, this was in 2001, started doing track days again a couple of years ago and the tree had gone so I didn't know where to start peeling into Coppice, and they'd added a stupid chicane between Mansfield and the bottom of the mountain.

few weeks ago I ordered an 10W-exhaust for my MK1 125LC. The pictures on ebay showed two holes. No problem, I can weld this. The exhaust arrived in Germany and something was rattling inside. Don't mind! Cleaned the exhaust, mounted it and went for a ride. The bike doesn't rev above 7500, what's that? After 20 kilometres the engine stalled. Hmm, I have spark no dirt in carburetor, try again - I made it home. At work i cut the expansion chamber open and found the the baffles shaken loose and the insulation material broken into parts. Away with this useless stuf! I did my best to make a nice welding and tried again. Still no power and high coolant temperature. Is my CDI-unit kaputt? Lent a stroboskop and checked ignition timing - fine. Is my crankcase leaking? Did I mount the piston the wrong way? Then I tried the "flow bank": I connected the exhaust to the vacuum-cleaner. The vacuum cleaner has a little service indicator and compared to my coked 11Y-exhaust my new exhaust flows great. This needs further investigation! Today i had a quiet day at work and drilled some holes into the rear portion of the exhaust.
I found that some "tuner" took a long iron, shove it into the rear of the exhaust and whacked it through the end of the expansion chamber. So more cutting, more welding, a little bit of grinding and some heatproof paint spray and my frankenstein-exhaust is ready for the next trial. But not now, because I am waiting for the Heli-Coil to arrive. One of the exhaust-studs came out with the thread on it.
On one side I am angry. My first thought was "How dare you!". But I am glad, that I have found the cause. At least I think so.
BTW: Is someone here running an 46W-exhaust on a MK1?

waaaaaay back in the early 80s i traded my old superdream into the local yamaha shop for a XJ550. now the problem was the superdream engine sounded like a bag of nails. so hatched a plan to keep it quiet long enough to get it past the dealer ..
i ground up and squeezed 3 bananas along with a bottle of stp gear oil into it lol.... it was quiet as a mouse when he fired it up. bought the XJ and shuffled on my way...

Just reminded me: I broke the sump bolt off my mega-mile CB400 super dream - a mate did a pigeon shit welding job on it to basically weld the sump bolt permanently in place.
I needed another bike in a hurry (I was a courier back in the day) so went up the local dealership and bought a GS550. The day I went it was tipping with rain and freezing cold. The lazy ass salesman didn’t want to go out in the cold and wet so he just said ‘is it ok?’ I said ‘yeah’ and the deal was done.
Didn’t go back there for a while.

Slow Progress on my MK1: I drained most of the coolant and filled up with destilled water. The coolant temperature went down! It seems, the Mazda FL22 "Ready to use" Coolant, which gives protection down to -35 Centigrade, is not the right stuff. And I did a little math and discovered, that my rev-counter shows 1000RPM less than the engine does! So I have no cause to blame the CDI. Discovered cracks in the front fender, where the rivets sit. I removed the rivets, cleaned both parts and glued it togehter with PU-bodyglue. More unsprung weight, but I don't want to have the fender sticking in the radiator. At last, I pulled the flywheel and loosened the screws which hold the stator. Turned the stator as far as possible counterclockwise and fastened the bolts again. With this "setup" I went for a long trip on Friday. Only had to take the tools out to change the spark plug and to fix the spark plug cap with a ziptie. I think LB05D are better than LB05F.

Every caliper I ever strip seems to have had the pistons removed previously by an ape with a pair of pipe grips!

In the late 80's a mate who was a "mechanic" put a new tire/wheel on my car and he snapped one of the wheel studs it was due for it's MOT a couple of days later 😲.
So I stuck the broken head on with super glue and it never came off, I've never used super glue so successfully since 🥺.

Refurbed a pair of forks for my F2 recently and swapped them over this weekend, the pair I took out were different lengths! On stripping them, one had the rebound spring on the damper rod but under the stanchion rather than in it and of course was over the ally bit at the bottom! The preload spacer washers were also on top, not under the preload spacer so one fork spring had slipped partly into the spacer. Both the fork cap O rings are far to big, I'm amazed they got them in and they sealed! I'll build them back up with new bushes and seals with everything in the right place.....

When I bought my RD350F2, I tried it, it was fine. Then I have done 50 miles on highway, when I stopped to pay at the toll, engine drop at idle speed with a very loud noise !! Then I continue 20 miles up to the house and engine was working fine, then again at idle speed, loud noise ! I open the engine, here is the bearing on oil pump side !!!!!! Considering the shape of the balls, it has not sudunly appeared I guess ! Xavier

Found this on my CB400F when I stripped it down for a through check up Front caliper bolted the the lower fork slider by one bolt😳 And of course as it a 1977 bike did not require a mot so the PO was riding it like this😳 Bloody accident waiting to happen
