I'm rebuilding my LC.... Joined the crankcase with threebond 1207..... Bit paranoid about base and head gasket leaking.... Is it ok to smear a smidge of threebond on gaskets or is threebond a gasket alternative .. Can't find a definitive answer anywhere ... Cheers 👍

I used it on the base gaskets as I noticed a leak when I did the leak down test. I would not use it in the head gasket.

Wish I had, Yambits gaskets leaking. Base gaskets front inner left and right and head gasket front left. Just bought originals and also genuine head washers in case the 30 thou skim made the studs bottom :-( Oh, well, strip and glue time...

Try re-torquing it first, very common.

Head gasket on dry. Rest of the gaskets i rub grease round them . They come away with no problem when the engine is stripped in the future.

You may need thicker base gaskets if the head and/or cylinders have been skimmed.

Smear of instant gasket on paper gaskets why not?

I always apply a thin smear to genuine Yam base gaskets when fitting. Never had a leak from them. Especially worth doing when there are witness marks from previous owners using a screwdriver to lever barrels from cases !! (probably coz there was some gasket goo on the gaskets !! ) Last thing I want to do is strip a top end for a leak at the base, so a thin smear each side does the trick. Downside is you wont be re using the gaskets on subsequent strip downs, but I always fit new anyway. You may find you spend time cleaning the remains of the gaskets off cases and barrels but that's no biggy. The only other downside is cost of base gaskets if you wanted to reuse them - not too bad for the Lc owners, but far more expensive if you have a Pv Dusty

I spray my base gaskets with copper spray and also the head gaskets if not genuine.
