Looking amazing Rob. Whatever you do...don't use paint stripper on plastics. Even if the stuff is only on there for a moment it will soften the plastic and distort it. Worse case scenario, it will melt. I'm amazed that Nitromors did anything. You can wash your hands in that! Get the evil stuff off eBay, it's brilliant.

Abit more done on the bike, I had purchased new plastic repo bikini fairing side panels Belly pan. Just done a mock up to check if things line up before paint. There seems to be a bit of a gap between the rear panels and tail unit not massive but not as close as I'd like, there isn't any adjustment other than to elongate the smaller holes in tail unit. Has anyone else had to do this? Also the nose cone is very close to indicators at its widest point. Am I right that the front indicator stems are the shorter ones front and rear? Or longer at the front like lc ones? I stripped the tank and was pleasantly surprised only a couple of small dings. I have decided to keep the colour scheme original for 83 I have just ordered the decals off ebay from classicreproductiondecalsand parts in Derbyshire. Anyone rate them or negatives? Cheers Rob

Not sure if same seller but just call the image works
Should be cheaper than eBay
There is always a gap between the panels. As long as it isn't wider that the bit of the tail panel that goes behind the side panel

I will be fitting the decals then getting them to lacquer over. Do you know a modern paint close to the new pearl white? And the red on mudguard? The frame is done in ral 3020 Do you normally use same red for frame and bodywork? Or if anyone else knows id appreciate options? Cheers Rob

Hi
There is a ford colour that is near to the correct front muddy colour
Ford Venetian red springs to mind but I may be wrong, best have a squint in Halfords lol
For the white pearl I wouldn't be so fussy.
Go down to the local supermarket and look at pearl white cars and pick one. I think Nissan make a nice pearl white
Either that or call RS paints and buy some of the correct colour but be sure you ask for the solvent based one and not a water based
They will try and sell you the base coat too but I think it's just a flat white base
Fitting the decals can be a bit tricky.
The sides, tail and belly are straight forward but the tank and nose fairing are difficult
The tank I expected but I was surprised by the nose cone
It curves from the rear of the screen to the headlight opening but it also changes from concave to convex as it goes
If you like near Derby take your panels to the Image Works and they will fit them. This is what Mark Cordwell does

I have fitted a few decals before mostly to mx bikes i have always used the soapy water method and squeegee the bubbles out, The times I have messed them up was when doing them dry and starting off slightly wrong 🤦♂️. Wet method is more forgiving i found. I am confident to give them ago.
I will have a browse while out and about 😉 Cheers steve

Your half way there then
I started doing them wet but now prefer dry
I used to think I was getting air bubbles but found the biggest problem is little specs of grit or dust so a clean clear are is essential
Have a pair of tweezers handy and after you peel off the backing paper check it for any specks and pick them off with the tweezers
Happy hunting for a colour lol

Can you tell me what your white is like on your painted bodywork or if you know what was used? Looking at images for the 83 they just look an off flat white to me they don't like pearly lol. I know images and in the flesh differ somewhat. Does yours have a pearly tinge to it? Cheers Rob
