This is well worth a watch. Along with fellow racer, John Dodds, he developed a motorcycle using a two-stroke outboard motor designed by Dieter König. He and the König were the first to challenge the dominance of the MV Agustas after the departure of Honda from Grand Prix competition at the end of the 1967 season. In contrast to his main competitors, Newcombe was credited with the distinction of developing, building, maintaining, and riding the König machine in competition. its in 4 parts. www.nzonscreen.com/title/love-speed-and-loss-2007

I love looking at the Konig powered race machines at classic meetings. The engines are not cheap either.

I’m a big fan of racing up to the mid 90’s then it all gets a bit mmmwwww for me 70’s and 80’s when innovation seemed to rule roads or tracks when men had bugger grips and a fag in the gob. Grease under the nails and smelt of Castrol R . Proper racing and no corporate bullshit.

I read about it earlier post crash maybe we should put bales there. I hate these jumped eejits bloody power mad playing with peoples lives it’s a difficult sport as is without t**ts like them. Thankfully there seems far more respect these days although ezpelleta seems like it’s all about him and the riders are a commodity too much like the poison dwarf in F1.

ezpelleta Is very similar to Cooper As it’s all about money
A few years ago at Austria MotoGP riders complained about safety in wet conditions as the run off needs improvement ! Crutchlow has voiced the same thing again yesterday! And looks like a wet race on Sunday.

Two very interesting documentaries...much to reflect on.
In particular a couple of incidents would be unimaginable in a modern climate of duty of care etc

Both really interesting docs, especially the Kim Newcombe one, what an incredible story, nearly winning the world championship on a basically homemade bike!! But a very sad end, i see V. Cooper made an unwelcome appearance in this too. What a vile man, how on earth was he allowed to run the ACU like that!!
Thanks for posting

I met Gary Thompson quite a few times always found him to be very helpful seems like a nice bloke ( mind the power dynamics were a bit different).

Just watched both of these, it is amazing how little respect the ACU had for the riders. Thank goodness we have people like Stuart Higgs in charge now, who actually likes racing.
Kim Newcombe, what an amazing story, and one that I didn't know about. A man beating the MV's in 1972 on a bike with a 4 cylinder 2-stroke boat engine, brilliant!
