Hi, as some of you may know I'm building a hybrid 4l0 with a ypvs 350 31k engine, so do I buy a ypvs loom for obvious reasons pv servo ect, as I'd think a 4l0 loom would be hard to convert to the pv engine but don't honestly know, I've herd alott about zeel boxes so maybe getting one of those, banshee Coils and a 31k coil stator pack , will these match with either harness???. Also has anyone converted the fuse box from ancient glass ones to more upto date blade type,, lots of questions I know so bear with me.. Just trying to visualise my options for future cheers, 👍👍probably running conefilters not airbox so could fit most of it under the tank as I saw on one of dustys hybrids, but is this bad ??, cone filters I mean

Modern electrics are a definite upgrade, and solve some problems, with siting new, smaller electrical boxes as a bonus. If I were starting from scratch, and had the funds, that's the way I would go. Most original looms, Cdi's etc are 35+ years old so that can create issues with reliability, and electrical problems can be a royal pita to solve . I've used a Pv loom and boxes in hybrids as it's easy peasy, coupled with Pv ignition switch, switchgear etc, but a lot of the loom and parts on a Pv aren't sited where they are on an Lc, so wiring a Pv loom onto an Lc isn't plug and play from that point of view. A lot depends on how radical a build you are doing, but if the profile of the bike is Lc "like", with side panels, standard seat etc, siting standard boxes means you are extending the loom in places, and trying to find space to squeeze components in - you have less space than you think. And losing the airbox isn't the best idea - keep it if you can. Foam pods will work ok - don't use metal capped filters as that can create problems, but it's generally regarded that airbox is best on theses bikes. Pj carbs are definitely harder to set up with pods. Losing the airbox to make fitting the loom and boxes is a massive compromise, but with modern parts like a Zeel, you could keep the box far more easily I think, and a combined Zeel will save a lot of headaches due to it being one, smaller box than the standard Yam set up. You can use an Lc loom, but need to splice in a small sub loom for the Pv actuation. There are details on the forum if you search. And, arguably, Lc switchgear is better looking than Pv switchgear, and keeps it all a bit more "Lc". If you are good with wiring, you can usually make anything work with anything else, but modern components are a massive upgrade - a bit like going from analogue to digital - a no brainer if you can afford it And if you want to go really trick with wiring, look at a Motogadget "M - Unit" set up that will simplify the loom massively.
