This looks like it's riveted.Any tips on best way to drill them out. I only want it off so I can paint the top yolk. Would it be easier to leave it and just mask it off?

Wow never seen that before. Must be a heavy duty rivet. Whats it look like top side?
Me personally, I'm a standard bike man so I would be looking at ways to drill it out and replace with stock fasteners.

I believe they are bolted with screws designed to make it hard for removal.i don't know what the usual removal method is, but I have removed these on other bikes by drilling a hole in the middle and hammering a torx screw in to remove. Then replaced with bolts.

I think they are the shanks of a bolt. The bolt is screwed into place, there is a reduced diameter on the shank of the bolt and when the bolt reaches a certain torsion the reduced shank breaks.

it sounds a bit exotic but they will be easy to remove with a left hand drill bit.

Forgot say it's off an FII. I would say they are original fixings as the key is original Yamaha and fits all locks so don't think the ignition has been changed

What are you doing with the bike? If it is indeed original and you are keeping bike as original as possible, I would leave as is. Mask off and paint if needed. If modifying i would remove and do properly.

Looking at Fowlers website the originals have been superseded by 90109-06282 a small headed thing that snaps off.

Yep it's a shearing head security bolt
I just run a 6.5mm drill into them till the head comes off
The threaded bit left in the yoke comes out with mole grips
Never heard of someone removing the ignition switch to nick it
That would be more difficult than the other options lol
I just replace with allen bolts
If you want more security fill the Allen heads with epoxy
