thanks thrash merchant, will look into the DVLA website, see what it says, if i have to pay for one even if i did send mine in, then i like you say mislaid my old one!!!! dont know much about sorn as i have never had to do it, another thing to read about!! It used to be that you sorn every year, nowadays you sorn and forget about it until you might want to tax it. If you tax it you have to keep taxing it if you don’t re-sorn it when tax expires. It’s one or the other once on the system. The only thing is if they assume your bike will not surface and use your number, a bit like phone numbers. Use it or lose it. See if it’s on the system. yeah, bike is still on the system, expired tax may 1990 and no mot expiry date, which i assume is because it was before everything was put on line.
going to bite the bullet and ssend £25 plus a V62 and V890 form to the DVLA.
hope i dont get a fine for not having a sorn put on it earlier!!!

When we had a local office was told ‘historic’ issues were not followed up, they are getting paid for a V5 and possibly future tax revenue so are receptive.

Managed to speak to someone at DVLA today. He said until they are back to full staffing levels nothing is being processed, so it could be a few more weeks yet!! Trying to register a bike with no reg number so I've probably been waiting about 6 weeks to get told to sod off 😂😂 Did you have any luck registering with no reg? They told me they couldn't do it without original reg. What year is your bike? If it's got the new format (17 digit) frame number which I think is after 1981 you can get the reg from an HPI check. Otherwise they'll only do an age related with a valid dating certificate. I'm still trying to sort out my Kettle but hoping the previous owner can find an old photo with the plate on it.

Hi Finally got a reply back from dvla saying they have no record of vin .. I had a vin check done by a guy called Dave Anderson on the classic 2 stroke forum but he couldn't find the reg either (worth looking him up though he has a good success rate ) . I now have to go through Nova and a dating certificate before i can register it. Regards Dale Ps mines 1975 with a 9 digit vin

I'm only doing age related as a last resort, luckily I still have a contact for the previous owner so hoping he'll find the reg. Good luck!

I'll give the previous owners a chance but thanks for the Dave Anderson tip.
It's spread across the garage at the moment and it took me nine years to do my LC so probably no great hurry...

There was an article in the paper that I read this morning about the DVLA problems, and to summarise, if you are just waiting for weeks and then your paperwork turns up, you are one of the lucky ones. There are people stuck with no ID, because their driving licence has been lost, sent 'log books' for someone else's vehicle... you name it! They are struggling very badly over there!

thanks Dave B, for the update. Trouble i have is that i sent a cheque for the new V5, which still hasnt cleared, dont want to re-apply, send another cheque. Be good if i could just speak to someone. ( suppose if and when i see the cheque has cleared, i know someting is happening!!!) now is there a timeline a cheque has to be presented??
