Will see if I can work it out but think about 10 days. Still not sure but it looks like 12. Not sure if it’s just a coincidence but have bought a number of parts lately and have taken much longer to arrive than normal which is to be expected but the ones that have taken the longest came from Wales, I got one part from Germany that was quick to arrive and one part from Fowler’s that was virtually next day.

7 weeks since I sent off my logbook to change tax class to Historic. When I log on to tax the bike their database is still saying Bicycle as the tax group, they realise the bike is 40 years old and doesn`t need an MOT but still want paying for tax!

Yes I know, thats why I sent off the logbook and check every day online to see if I can tax it

Even normal times they can be annoying, like making you wait to receive V5 then fining you for not taxing it soon enough. It’s still a bicycle, I would pay and claim back later or they will do it automatically. At the end of the day all they care about is money.

When we had local offices it was easy, apart from having to go there.

bought my bike in 85, (but not been on the road for the last 30) still have the original log book, ( and the address i was at the time) which shows the original 1 previous owners name and address,( which would be unheard of nowadays with data protection) pervious owner lives about half hour drive, was thinking of having a drive and knocking on, just to see the look on his face, but thats if he is still around!!!
be a shame that i have to tell the DVLA about my change of address, and lose a bit of history with the old log book. also will have to sorn the bike now!! which wasnt around when it was last on the road

You would have to pay for a modern V5 , if you send the old one in it might still cost. When the local offices were still open I asked them about non sorned bikes that had sort of been off the system and would anyone be liable, they said no, like an amnesty. It’s a business to them, prob a lot out there retaining the old one. You sorn once for free, it’s not renew every year like it was.

It used to be that you sorn every year, nowadays you sorn and forget about it until you might want to tax it. If you tax it you have to keep taxing it if you don’t re-sorn it when tax expires. It’s one or the other once on the system. The only thing is if they assume your bike will not surface and use your number, a bit like phone numbers. Use it or lose it. See if it’s on the system.

Friend of the wife’s had sent another a pressie, she didn’t get a response though tracker had told her that it had been delivered. She rang the friend and the friend said she didn’t get the parcel, so she sent a photo of it but she said it wasn’t her doorstep!

They were very helpful and returned them all. Whenever I have had any dealings with DVLC it has always been a good experience.
