New research shows that smokers are less likely to get/suffer symptoms of Covid 19 according to the latest french research. After 34 years of tabbing it I haven’t had one since Saturday what a time to stop 😬

I think I'd rather risk covid than keep smoking lol
Just think, you could buy my spoked hybrid with all that money you are saving 🤣🤣🤣🤣
And as an ex smoker who has quit twice don't panic but you are probably going to get one hell of a chesty cough as your lungs adjust
There a whole lot of lung butter to come out 🤢

Wife has stopped as well so we will be around £900 pr month better off. Which I have told her is not going on more f**king horses. I have stopped years ago for 2 years to get through the old Bills ongoing fitness tests as was in probation period then once through I started again.

Agree with Steve, I stopped I guess a decade-ish ago and felt much, much worse for a few months after I stopped!
So I was told by the GP, the smoking creates a mucus on the lung (which is quite possibly what is stopping the covid from getting to the tissue) and it takes some time for the body to get rid...you'll feel much better for it in the long run thou Tim....

Covid probably cant live in that extreme environment of toxins..... When you do stop...you'll need that dosh for Gaviscon....... You will feel better very quickly

Thanks chaps it’s strange the last time I stopped I got better almost instantaneously this time (the passage of time) it’s taking a wee while longer. However I am bloody glad to have made the decision. We will see how I get on but I am bloody determined to keep off the death sticks and I think it was Steve H who recommended the chewing gum which I had never tried before and it seems to be working. Cheers my ex smokers 👍

holy toot.. £900 wow, that works out at about 45 packets each, maybe a bit less but.. 1800 fags divided by two gives 900 per month or thirty a day.. I smoke about two packs a week so that 900 quid is around what i spend in a year..
back in the '80's my grandad got pissed off with the govt doubling the price of fags so stopped, no cut back or anything, just finished with it and he was pretty ill for about 3 weeks as his body adjusted, he had been smoking since he was a lad so probably had done so for maybe 60 years.. the doctor suggested he might want to start again and cut back gradually but he wasn't having that.. he was good for the next 25 years

Both my dad and my grandad stopped the day they retired. Dad went on for another 20 yrs and gramps went on for over 30 years both did it cold turkey. When I was a kid everyone smoked and if you rode a bike you were cool and to be cool you tabbed it. As soon as I was 16 on my birthday I started, Now I’m 50 I would slap my 15 yr old if he had a fag.

I started in the 1st year at secondary school and quickly graduated to woodbines, rollups and a pipe for a while.... that's the only graduation for me thankfully. Always found potential demic in every academic... You notice your heart rate lower significantly, but strangely I was pretty fit during my fuming career. It ain't difficult veg.. stay busy and occupied! Leave the smoking to someone in Arbroath!! www.arbroathsmokies.net/

From what I heard weeks ago, why are men more likely to fall seriously ill or die from it than women, were because they were more likely to be smokers.

never ever smoked in my life, hate the things, both my parents smoked up until 20 yrs ago, then they both stopped overnight, my mum because she had cancer and just stopped, so my dad did the same, cold turkey, never bothered them. Thankfully I've never been interested My daughter has asthma and so she has one of the those blow meters (Peak Flow Meter) and we often test each other, my son is 18 and can blow around 450 (bit low for his age), my daughter can blow about the same which is good for her, my wife can only manage 380 (which is bad and she has never smoked), I can do 675 to 680 consistently, which according to the charts means I have peak performance for a 35yr old bloke - it drives my kids nuts that I out do them on it, my son can't figure it out why my lungs are so much better than his ! - I put it down to the 2 stroke smoke

Why did you wait until you were 16 ? I was smoking at 12 never stopped until I was in my 30,s everyone smoked when I was a boy ,when I was an apprentice etc if you didn't smoke the other blokes thought you weren't right, you could have a smoke with an older a workmate and be accepted.Strange now looking back.

It’s harder to catch covid if you are a smoker...as the effects of smoking provide a barrier to bridge into your tissues ....BUT if you are a smoker and do get it....then the likely prognosis is worse..

I see the French have started a trial on Nicotene patches on healthcare workers to see if it stops them catching it
More likely either the tar in the smokers lungs (or something like that) or something in the smoke killing it

This trial isn't being instigated by someone with a connection to the ostracised tobacco industry is it? I guess shaking a shitty stick at it has as much merit as that trial.
