I have always struggled to find an easy way, using a hammer with various bars, screwdrivers and drifts. Then I had a light bulb moment...

You should of asked 🥴 that’s how I’ve done it for years 👍
Also helps turning one edge up first before fitting if it’s originally flat

Thats how I do all of mine, I also pre-bend the edge of the washers before fitting so they are easy to grab, and don't look like Frankenstein has smashed them to bits with a hammer and chisel. oops beaten too it

I use mole grips. Adjust them to the size of the nut, back it off a bit. Lift the tab with a wood chisel/hammer then flatten it against the nut with the grips. PoP :-)
It's a proper Eureka moment

I have some disc locking tabs to bend, so will try this method. Always managed to damaged my new painted disc in the past and have to touch up.
