Got to take my hat off to Al. This tang fits perfectly and it is easy to do. Simply hacksaw the remains of the old tang off and sand the base flat. Make sure you use tape beforehand to align the new tang with the old one, then just glue it on. I only had to have one attempt and I got it spot on. If I didn't know a nylon one was being made I'd be quite happy with this one!

Well done Alan using modern technology to fix old bikes, it will be far better/cheaper to have a decent seat now than the crazy prices being asked & paid, my seat is ok but I will probably buy one for when I need it.

Hi Trevor How about this The modification to the part is to have two “slotted” holes 10mm long to allow you to tune its final position on the bike, then you could take dimensions glue in its correct position and then screw using the other holes? Any input welcome Best wishes Al Hi Al, FYI, this was the drawing I mentioned in my message! 👍🏻. Cheers bud. Iain.

Think I only have broken ones, I'll have to have a dig around
A.ybody else got a smashed cover with the surround intact?

I think I might have a broken cover with about 80% of the key surround intact. I’ll dig it out and post a couple of pics tonight

Ok
So what do we want to possible print
Is it just a replacement bottom section that goes around the ignition barrel?
Looks doable but really need a case to measure and model a replacement part that I can then share with all to get some feedback

Hi Steve
Ok sounds feasible
If I can model then maybe we could print in black ABS so it would be easy to bond to the original cases as I think most plastic yam parts are in ABS
No sure about the final finish but with abs you can always lightly sand then paint to match the rest of the cover?
So question is who would be willing to send me one so I can model up a possible section and then go from there as I am just a peasant with a lower class 4L0😁
Ps did someone make a modified one as the clutch cable used to damage the case or is that a different issue?

Post by midlifecrisisrd on Apr 23, 2020 20:48:34 GMT 1
The cut out was there to allow the clutch cable to pass through but it made it very weak
Don't think the case is abs but that is irrelevant
It is quite a brittle plastic which breaks easily
That along with the fact it is moulded with the clear lenses in it makes it near impossible to change a lens
I'd have to have a dig and see if I have an intact one

So the bit which I thought missing from this clock cover is actually meant to be that way? I thought it was busted. Steve, you mentioned the lenses are a bug#er to change. That was the reason I didn’t use these on the 31k build. Are replacement lenses available because all three on this cover are cracked? Sorry to have hijacked the thread Al but it just evolved that way.

Sorry to have hijacked the thread Al but it just evolved that way. No lenses available I'm afraid as the clear discs are put in the mold before the plastic is injected so the lenses are bonded in I have changed a few before but you need a donor case to disect the lens and part of the black surround and machine out the broken ones As all 3 of yours are cracked that is an absolute nightmare as you would need a cover with just the surround missing but good lenses In that case you would be best cutting the surround off yours and fitting it to the good lens cover Yours may be a good one to send for a replacement to get made from And yes the cut out should be there Steve

Seat tang arrived in the post this morning Al. What a nice bit of kit👍 and really well made. Just need to get a seat base now and I’ll be sorted. As Steve suggests, my clock case is available if you need one for measuring. Give me a shout if you need it and fancy taking on more work 😉 John
