Hi, I tend to fit them so the castlation pattern is to the inside (so as your picture is showing now), thereby replicating the clutch side, castlation to the inside, but that's just my own preference as its easy to remember

Hi all just been and pressure tested the engine at 6 psi and it dropped 1/2 psi in 6 minutes but not from the seal that was sprayed with windowlean no bubbles so to muddy the waters I turned the seal around but this time instead of a smear of red grease I packed it with grease the accompanying picture shows the side of the seal facing in to the bearing but I have to agree with many the seal is the same each side internally the only deference is a chamfer on the outer edge of one side where it contacts the case the second photo now faces out to the alternator cheers everybody for the help and advice now on to fitting in the frame

Did you check that you have matching top and bottom cases? The hand engraved numbers should match.

No they are different but was running as a pair before the stripdown

There can be issues with mismatched casings due to mis-alignment of the grooves for the crank seals.

Yeah have heard that will monitor the engine closely to start with thanks for the advice
