With all the shiny bits I'd be tempted to go for black wheels mate to add a bit of contrast. Whatever you go for it'll still look amazing.

Looking lovely as usual Dusty. Can you still see the frame numbers after powder coating? I have never had one done but have read sometimes they need sanding down? That has always put me off. A good Powder coaters should mask the frame no up with like a silver foil tape ,that's what they do where I get mine done. 👍

Frame number is just about visible. If I ever sell it I can mask it off and take the finish back a bit to show it more. Switches were via ebay. The same switches are on the 430e and work as they should. Only difference is there is no pass switch on the left block which isn't an issue for me. Genuine are nla unfortunately, and probably twice the price if they were ! These were £50 each. Only 1 job today, and that was to grind off the lettering on the wheels. I did this on the Café racer wheels and they look better without the various embossed wording on the spokes. Easier to keep clean too; 20200726_162553 by dusty miller, on Flickr Felt a bit bad taking a grinder to that Nos back wheel, but it will be worth it ! Think the wheels will be white - they work well with the polished forks and swingarm on the Café bike, and will contrast with the white bodywork this bike will end up with. White wheels are very 80's too !! Dusty

It's a minor detail Chris, but makes a big difference, especially on bright coloured wheels where dirt and grime will sit in and around the lettering. I do it on all my wheels now Dusty

Few more bits bought this week. Shambits supplied a battery strap, 4 little rubber buffers that sit in the bottom of the battery box so the battery sits on a cushioned base, oil tank mounting rubbers and a new decal for the upside down ignition surround ! A got a Tz throttle leaf through ebay, so that should add at least a few mph to the top speed , and fitted the throttle grip. Lc pattern headlamp fitted, with a cut out in the top that I did with the dremel as it doesn't have one as standard . Shambits also supplied a 12v horn with the correct mounting bracket for the frame too. Wheels were dropped off top Jamie on Monday for white gloss powdercoating, and he may get them coated today; 20200731_103159 by dusty miller, on Flickr Ordered the wheel bearings, and hopefully tyres for next week if all goes to plan. Another part missing was a sprocket carrier for the VJ22 rear wheel. Mouse came up trumps, again, supplying a good one, that has also gone to Jamie for vapour blasting; 20200731_100534 by dusty miller, on Flickr It's looking more like a bike each day !! 20200731_125939 by dusty miller, on Flickr

Cheers guys Hopefully a roller by the end of next week as long as I can source all the parts needed. So, tyres today ! Mouse uses a place in Guildford and recommended them, so I popped by his and he came with me. This place only does bike tyres, so they knew how to treat the wheels thankfully, so no damage to the powdercoat (phew !) The bearings I had ordered for the rear wheel still haven't turned up, but they managed to balance the rear without the bearings fitted. Even got to choose either black or silver balance weights !! I went with black ! Really pleased they did such a good job of fitting them. The rim decals I ordered yesterday were delivered today, so after giving the front wheel a final polish, I fitted the discs, and applied the decals. This wheel looks identical to the wheels in the Café racer; 20200806_183122 by dusty miller, on Flickr I fitted a cheap Rgv mudguard I had picked up, and then fitted the wheel; 20200806_192255 by dusty miller, on Flickr Really pleased with how it looks. The Rgv speedo drive unit is shagged though - the metal worm gear is seized solid, and nothing I've tried is unseizing it, so I will have to source another. I have a better mudguard too which will eventually get painted red. Still waiting on 2 rear wheel bearings and the sprocket hub bearing. As this was a NOS rear wheel, it had no cush dampers. None locally on ebay either, so I had to bite the bullet and buy 6 new from Fowlers Bloody expensive . I'm also waiting on a sprocket, and a Tyga caliper carrier before I can fit the wheel. I did buy a new disc, disc bolts and sprocket bolts too; 20200806_192345 by dusty miller, on Flickr Dusty

love the wheel! Such a pleasure to deal with a company who know how to treat parts right and who offer top service.
Choice of colours for the weights, class!

Rear wheel and hub bearings appeared today, so popped them in the freezer for a couple of hours and they tapped in nice and easily. Also fitted the rim decals to match the front; 20200807_155817 by dusty miller, on Flickr I fitted the new sprocket hub dampers into the wheel with some red rubber grease to aid the fitting of the hub. As the rubbers are new, it makes pushing the hub in fully quite difficult - I just couldn't get it fully home, so down the shed to dig out my home made draw bar tool; 20200807_165947 by dusty miller, on Flickr That pulled the hub in with virtually no effort ! So just the disc to fit now, plus I'm waiting on the Tyga caliper carrier and sprocket to turn up before I can fit the rear wheel. I want both wheels in before I fit the engine. Dusty

Disc now fitted with 4 new bolts; 20200810_170229 by dusty miller, on Flickr Gavin at Jap4 Performance supplied the Tyga caliper carrier and some alloy adjusters for the forks; 20200810_170144 by dusty miller, on Flickr I had an issue with the carrier in that I couldn't pass the wheel spindle through it ? I checked with Gavin that I had the right one ( I did), and when I measured it with the vernier, it was less than half a mm too small on the hole the spindle passes through. so a couple of dremal runs through achieved a nice sliding fit. Finally, the Shambits side stand spring - which was a complete pig to fit, failed after less than 24 hours on the bike 20200810_170203 by dusty miller, on Flickr The bike was on a paddock stand, and I'm not sure if the spring is slightly shorter than standard, but I've never had such a struggle getting a stand spring on before ! I usually use washers between the coils, but had to use roofing nails to gat anywhere near. Finally got it on and bolted up, and left the stand in the down position although the bike wasn't leaning on it. Went in the garage when I got in this afternoon and found the 2 bits on the floor Another part from Shambits you shouldn't waste your money on Sprocket is due to be here on Wednesday, so hopefully have a rolling chassis by the end of this week ! Blimey. Lucky it wasn't actually ON the side stand. You can still get them new I think. Mine was about a tenner. Got to pop round one day (on the Mito of course) for a gawp and a natter!

Hi mate The bike wouldn't have fallen off the stand if it had been leant on it, but obviously it would be a problem if you were out and about as the stand wouldn't stay up. You could imagine it falling down on a left hander, digging in and spitting you off So, only small rubber parts from Shambits from now on, and even then, nothing engine related obviously. They just cant be trusted The spring is available from Yamaha - Fowlers have stock and yep, a tenner. I'm around later in the week if you are passing Dusty

Wheels look great Dusty. Interesting about the Tyga hanger not fitting!! Mine had a different fitting problem if you remember, yet when i spoke to Tyga, they had "never had any problems before", must be just you and me!
Also the side stand spring, really! Don't these people test their products, unbelievable!
Still, looking good cannot wait to see the engine in!

Hi mate Yea, Gavin hadn't heard of the spindle not passing through before. I had the same issue as you regards the caliper fitting the carrier - I fully expect to do that minor mod again when I source the caliper. I didn't have the spindle issue before though. I ordered a Renthal sprocket from B&C express yesterday. Couldn't find what I wanted on the website so ended up ringing them like you suggested. Had it in stock and they couldn't be more helpful - really good customer service, and £13 cheaper than getting a Tyga sprocket from Gavin. That should turn up tomorrow, so when it's fitted the wheel is complete and ready to go in. Then the engine Dusty

B&c were excellent. I did initially search their website and couldn't find what I wanted. I then ordered my Tyga caliper hanger and fork preload adjusters from Jap4, and saw they did a Tyga sprocket in the size I wanted, so ordered it, not knowing it was out of stock. I then rang B&C and a really helpful chap sorted the Renthal sprocket for me. Got to say Gavin at Jap4 was really good to deal with also, and happy to cancel the Tyga sprocket with no issues. And I ordered the side stand spring from Fowlers. I didn't think Shambits could get a spring wrong, but yes, they can ! I have bought the side panel rubbers, clock dampers, battery rubber strap and a couple of small non critical parts from Shambits, but I would never buy anything that could cause a breakdown or an accident. It's quite a list of parts now that have been known to either fail, or not fit properly Dusty

I've built a few before, mainly Lc and Pv based. Last 400 I built was over 10 years ago. I was given the frame for this build initially, and rather than cut it up for spares, I decided to build it into a bike. That was all dependant on getting a Uk registration, but once that happened I got stuck in And always Hybrids/specials. Dusty
