Anyone have any recommendations for these guys?
I know someone through another bike club that has asked me for advice on ebay item number 283713572795 and apart from counting the rivets the thing that always concerns me with these bikes is why not just finish it off before selling? It's not registered and unless there is something wrong with it then it's a simple process and surely makes sense to do that before putting up up for auction?
He also looks to have a couple of N1's and I'd really like another one, I regret selling mine.

Well its a nice looking bike and mostly original but I agree, its a bit weird, states 'the front brakes need bleeding, there are a couple of nuts and bolts missing all the fluids will need topping up' - well that should take an hour, 2 at most, but they have time 'no to finish it off'.
Like you, I would find those 2 hours, and a couple more to take it for MOT and fill in the V55/5 application and then sell it as a completed build, to give both buyer and seller confidence in the product.
I suppose it depends on what the reserve is set at, as could end up a bargain for someone if not too high. My guess is £5.5 to £6.5k once finished to a decent standard and UK registered. Needs UK clocks which could cost up to £300. I'd want to check on how much and who did the engine rebuild. Worth giving the fella a call to clarify things before bidding.

It is odd but dealers don’t seem to want to spend any money until bikes are sold, and like in this case the bike would be sold as seen. Taking into account parts and wages it may not be such a cheap fix, just make a bit ( or a lot ) and move it on to put back into the pot.

Another odd thing I have found is when a dealer makes you wait days for collection , supposedly to service it , then don’t even seem to have done anything anyway! Think it must be a power trip for some and they are sad c...s .

Back in the day bike dealers would sort this kind of stuff out straight away, well the good ones did. Not so many bike shops around period now, not much competition so can't be bothered??

He's a bike and car dealer
Google him and you find his website
May be that cars are his thing and the bikes an add on
As you say Jon, it looks like he is just buying and selling
He has a UK 350 for £12500 so shows the cut of his cloth

Unless he is letting someone like a son trade out of there. I went to collect some bike parts from a father and son business trading from a shared unit, the father wouldn’t deal with me and things got interesting after that. They don’t deserve any trade, but as in a certain countrywide car tyres , brakes and exhaust company that I hear a lot of horror tales about, people do use them.

Here’s my take: no mention of 4L0 and being sold by someone who defo knows that’s important.... Dating certificate most probably has to call it as it is if it’s matching 4L1, I’m guessing the model will be stated as 250....
Either way it ends up as a mess when you try to register because either you have to convert temporarily to a 250 then return, or get and MOT and try sort of the change of cc at the time..
Usually the expectations lie in what’s not said rather than what is said....

And here's my take .. people on the lookout for a good 350LC know how expensive they are. Putting a bike up for sale that only seems to need a couple of hours' work to make it roadworthy will tempt bids because those same people will think they can buy cheap and easily add value to it. The 'must have it' mentality pushes the price up which then generates more bids until the final sale price is at or very near to the true value of a matching numbers UK 350. What happens once the new owner gets the bike home, tops up the oil and brake fluid only to find it all pissing out on the garage floor the next morning .. or as already mentioned the 4L1 frame number? Sort those minor problems out for yourself matey boy .. the receipt clearly states 'sold as seen ..'

That's my take on it as well. It raises too many questions.
If it was easy to register and have looking really nice with no issues he'd have done it himself. Somewhere, there will be problems with that.

It's an odd one. All the original decals on it put me off. I get the running in one on the rev counter but who puts the tank fuel decal on when doing a resto? I dunno but I smell something and it ain't 2 stroke fumes.

10 odd years ago there seemed to be a bit of a thing for putting the tacho running in sticker, the fuel tank sticker and the infamous chain guard stickers on all rebuilds,

Yes I remember that Veg, all decals that can be left off imho. Ive never seen the point in them, its not like its actually new bike even if its restored.
The chain guard and brake lining stickers irk me something rotten these days... i must be getting old and crotchety haha!
