That's a great result Chris Hopefully get that flat spot ironed out. I wonder why it didn't show up on the dyno ? And your missus obviously knows about Rd's. Left hand covering the clutch lever Dusty

Left hand covering the clutch lever Dusty it's strange it didn't at all it pulled from low down right through to top not a single stutter ,get it on the road and it's a different story !! Bit of a bugger but I'll keep fiddling π

Hi Sidney, good to see a bit of colour in the pipes. are you going to oil them or paint them? Did you run with the balance pipe on the dyno session? What reeds do you have fitted? How about a 10mm reed spacer fitted before the reeds it might knock a few hp off the top but it could give you better mid range to help cure the flat spot. I have found the best way to help with flats spots on a more peppy engine is to make sure the hole from the carb to the reed is one size with no huge areas between the different parts. Those LC intake rubbers have built in stuffer's which is a good thing and will match the LC reeds. Below is a reed with a stuffer. One nice round hole (no altering diameters) from your carb to your stuffer.

Reed spacers, boost bottles, YPVS inlet rubbers are a few more things to have a mess with. I think I have an LC boost bottle somewhere...

I will try moving the filters back first see where that goes ! Thank you

On a serious note I had JJH needles fitted to my carbs with pods and it had a bad flat spot as well. The engine was a 4L0. I ended almost curing it with changing the needles to 68A needles.

Yes Allen's but I'm having difficulty remembering the correct spec of the needle. N68A or 68A. Someone will read this and put me right hopefully. You will also find the spec in lots of other threads.

They are N68X and N68A, I found that there wasn't much difference between the two when I was dialling mine in. Allens don't stock the N68X but they do do the very close N68A. Their stock number is N427-68-AOO. Think they were around Β£20 delivered, that was around 5years ago though. Mark.

Just remembered the other needle I discovered which again was a good match to the N68X was N427-46-HLH again from Allens. You should get it some were near with the 3 needle choices using foam filters. The JJH needle is good if using the air box . Be prepared for your brain to be frazed if it's not already with the different combos π¬

Hi,
I'm not sure of all your mods. Is it tuned at all, apart from pipes and carbs
One thing I did with a rd250 is change the reeds to the same as a 400, ie a stiffer reed on each block. Works well.

Hi everyone With some advice form a few guys on here I've got some different needles ,n68a and what a difference they make ! It's running well still needs some fine tuning but it's good ,I've fitted some reed block spacer's to to try and help but I've not tryed that yet ! .I also felt the gearing wasn't quite right I've got 17 front with a 37 rear Ive now gone to a 39 on the rear that should suit it better ! Going far a blast later see how it goes !! π

Are the gearbox ratios similar to a 4LO? IF they are you should try a 41 tooth sprocket.

Well the rear sprocket made a great difference ! And was lucky as the Chain was long enough to fit still Result!
Read block spacer's fitted to took it out and it's running good ,it sounds brilliant to ( very loud) I think the carbs are noisier than the pipes π,once I have the tank fitted I can go for a good ride and have a fiddle with the air screws etc but for now I'm leaving it how it is. Would you believe I've done 70 miles just going round the village testing with a lawnmower fuel tank strapped to the frame! 70 miles ha ha .

Looks awesome Chris I do love the Kenny colours on the aircooled bikes. Nearly opted for a shade of yellow myself, but went with the white/red as a nod to my original 400e, but it was a close decision. Nearly there now mate Look forward to seeing it with the bodywork fitted . Dusty
