If Yamaha chose to remake the old RD...that's what it'd look like. With a warning sticker saying 'do not sniff the exhausts' on it A;ex

Glad she is running well Chris She does look lovely. I think we are all guilty of a bit of exhaust/smoke sniffing !! There is probably a medical term for it.... Dusty

Hi everyone .. Well they say there never finished!! So this is what I'm thinking ! I get alot of nice comment's about my air cooled, but I've noticed a few people mention about it needs something at the back ,bit of colour etc ,seat hump / cowl and I do agree ,I've never been 100% happy with the seat myself ,it the seat I chose because at the time I struggled to find a stock seat , and I didn't really like them as I think they are to flat , unless they have been shaped up but anyway I got this and made a whole new subframe to accommodate it ,tbh it was definitely the hardest bit of the build getting it to fit and sit right ,I even had to cut the seam of the back of the tank and weld it up ,move the tank bracket's etc but I stuck with it and it's on and looks good I think. So I've been messing about with a seat hump just to get an Idea and I like it ,I'm going to try make one and have it painted yellow and that will give it that bit at the back it needs ,it's not going to be easy ,what's the best way get expanding foam and shape something up ? My brother works with fiberglass so that's handy I thought about making one from thin alloy but will see ,it's not going to be easy but I like a challenge , any thoughts, help ideas welcome π Few pictures with brother's seat hump on just for a idea .Chris π

Mmmm, I'm undecided on that. I think you've done a great job of the seat and subframe, coz it looks "factory". As said before, seats are often what spoil a special build as they are so hard to get right on a bike with modded bodywork or frames, and with the aircooled bikes especially, due to the square section rails at the back. I know between you and your bro you could may something nice, but have you considered a seat recover, incorporating some colour at the back ? It wont affect the lines of the bike, which in my opinion, work really well. Dusty

I've taken that on board ,and I agree with you about the seats how difficult it is to get right ,and not blowing my own trumpet I did manage to get this to fit really well it follows the lines ,sits with the tank well etc but I have always felt it needed a splash of colour at the back , I suppose a recover could work ? ,As for the seat hump I think we will try make one and see how it looks can't do any harm ,but it could look pants ! π€£π

It all comes down to personal choice - that's what makes them "specials". For me, a tail section looks odd if it is higher than the line of the tank - especially on the aircooled bikes that are square and blocky in profile. But that's only my opinion which counts for diddly squat ! I'm sure whatever you decide, it will look right, like the rest of the bike. Trust your instincts Dusty

Trust your instincts Dusty oh no your opinion means alot π, we have a little plan bro is going to cover the seat with polythene them fiberglass over the back hump so we will have the exact profile of the rear of the seat ,we are then going to add a small profile on the top of it ,then he will fiberglass over that and that's our mould , (hopefully) π€£.the hump won't be sitting up to high just the profile off the rear of the seat we shall see ππ

How about just having some yellow vinyl/leather panels on the back of the seat?

40 from an air cooled 250 is impressive. 160bhp per litre. How many super bikes can claim that? Not many.
