Stan Stephens did something like this, it was serialised in 'Motorcycle Mechanics' i think Mouse Did it run properly? It was built for a customer of his, i think it ran (try You Tube), afraid i don't know any more other than it had a different arrangement for the carbs, sorry Mouse

I was hoping some one would be able to comment on my remark

This was posted by Mick Costin on the RZ/RD500 Forum regarding the Stan Stephens engine Re: Costin - NSR500 1994 Doohan bike #62 Post by Mick C » Sun Nov 18, 2018 1:22 am Its one carb for left and one for the right side......it took about 15-20 secs for the top cyls to fire once it started. It took about 3 runs to get a similar mixture running from both the top and bottom pair of cyls..... I think the difference between the pairs will diminish once the engine starts to run at higher speeds and gravity stops playing its parts. Ill post up some pics of the engine shortly... ive had it running quite a bit, although Ive only ridden up an down the local street. We need new manifolds which angle the carbs off about 45 degrees to either side to give a little more clearance for front wheel. The wheelbase is the same as Doohans so I don't want to alter that otherwise we loose the authentic look of the bike. Changing the manifold will give us all the clearance we need. That will be done once the bikes in the UK.. It runs quite well and revs really crisp...the lowers seem to run a little richer than the tops but that's only an observation from a short amount of running the bike. When its being tested ill make sure to post results cause the 1 into 2 seems to have a lot of interest Cheers Mic heres the Stan Stephens motor he was talking about with the shared manifolds. Nothing has been posted since November 2018 so cant comment anymore on how it runs. The V6 motor hes built also has this shared manifold set up and has been seen on a dyno in very short video, so maybe someone knows how that bike is progressing? however if it was that good fitting shared manifold set up, then why did all the 500GP teams waste all their money fitting very expensive Siamese carbs when only 2 are needed. Best regards Johnny C.

Thanks Johnny that's some great info. Sounds like a flawed design and Mr Stephens hasn't really blown his trumpet about it either. Having said that Floydy only does full on WOT drag racing the carbs will be working flat out.

Never seen that before. BMW radial engine! Is it from some old aircraft from between the wars? Lovely bit of engineering. I’ll need to see if I can find out more about it

It’s an interesting engine and I can’t find details on it, I wonder if it’s home made? It’s a stationary radial obviously but the cylinders are widely spaced from the crank centre generally they are far closer to central, it looks like two stroke ? But possible it’s a side valve? However pipes etc look more stroker, I did find info on a radial two stroke Diesel engine, whatever it is it’s marvellous and well done. Like john I’d certainly like to know more, anyone else know?
