Wes Cooley is a really nice bloke, after bike racing he became a nurse, he retired a couple of years ago, most of the people he worked with didn't know that he raced motorcycles.

What is the plate on the side of the tank for? looks like a filler cap....

I think it is a quick fill (sprung loaded) filler cap harking back to early endurance racing.
Although on the side, it allows a full load of fuel to be taken on board very quickly during pit stops though you would think it would be better off on top

But one of the racers will let us know

I thought maybe it was for stuffing it with foam

I stupidly thought it was for fuel pump access 🤔

The kr1000 had one of you see a bike with twin fillers it’s for the same reason fuel in and air out. Hence why you have to be careful as the air is fuel vapours.

They stopped using them at the TT due to fire risk when they go they’re a fire ball.

And much easier in the side than having to lift the filler and insert into the top of the tank. Great design.

Always loved the racing colours of the Harley XRs (in front of the TZ) Great pic simulating the banked track of US circuits too. 😉

Is the Norton the cosworth one? Agree john weren’t the harleys built by Eric buell? Not sure it’s the xr1000 based cal raybourn one? Certainly looks like the 750 p86 from what can be seen in the pic. Rear swingarm looks correct and sporting the proper race colours too however without seeing the motor can't be 100%. I would assume it is the real deal given the company it is keeping tho Again not sure about the Harley either, just love the colours
