Interesting article, incredibly complex individual but very much not of his time.

Does anyone know if any of Lawrence of arabias Brough superior's still about? Think it sold at auction few years ago for mega bucks, although think there was questions about the provenance.

Interesting article, incredibly complex individual but very much not of his time. And very much of his his time as well. Whenever I see or hear him mentioned, I remember his involvement with the rescue boats.

I did actually mean to say not of his time though as he was such a forward thinker in some ways re Arab independence, anti colonialism etc, lived his life to his rules.

Remember the Ian McShane TV series? Lovejoy I think. One episode he had a Brough for sale and knew it wasn't the real McCoy but he had a subtle trick. Apparently Lawrence always kept a few shillings under the tank cap for fuel. So when a potential buyer turns up he rocks the bike from side to side to hear any coins jingling, and sure enough there they are under the cap. No idea if that's true or not but I hope it is.

I wonder how much he had it up for? Not £300 k I’m guessing 😁. There used to be a shop in tooting down the road from my grandfather in Wandsworth used to visit it as a kid it was Verrals they only dealt in broughs, Vincent’s etc this was the 79’s and 80’s I used to love walking down and staring at the bikes. That’s when I fell in love with Vincent black lightnings

That Nuda bike is something else. Looks a lot like the Tron Lightcycle. I'd love one. Alex

Show me a picture that sums up early 90’s cool, Honda rc30 racer, kushitani leathers, alpine stars boots, one of the fastest racers of his generation. That is such an evocative picture. Love it. My hero of the 90’s The Flyin Haggis Stevie Hislop

Was it Rob Mac that said the problem was you never knew if it was going to be Steve the Racer or Steve the tourer who’d turn up. On his day faster than anyone and very very humble.
