My self i have 2 fans going in the room and like a hermit with the curtens closed ill be in all day except to go to the post office and even after that short trip i can see me having a cold shower when get back i did yesterday . In days past id have been out laying in the garden getting a tan must be getting old .

I have started doing lots of the finishing work on my home including all doors tiling etc this morning I am outside using a hot air stripper to finish off bathroom door (it’s the original one) and I will be inside soon. Enjoy the day gents.

I'll be copying Norbo and staying close to a fan. French doors four feet away from me though, both wide open and they will stay that way until midnight. Hopefully some good storms to come later tonight to freshen it all up again!

Ok here's the thing you guys in the UK don't get
It's a mistake we made when we first came to Australia, where it's real hot and I'm talking 45-50 celsius
Keep your b!@@&y doors and windows and curtains and block out curtains closed during the heat of the day
having them open in the heat of the day only does one thing - it lets the hot air in !!! and guess what your house gets hot and you have the devils own job of getting it cool again
At night when its cooler, that's when you open them to let the cooler air in
Most of you will have cavity wall insulation, I have down here, it will prevent hot air getting in if all the doors etc are closed
Ensure your south facing windows are in shade, the sun can't penetrate them as easy
A cheap way to make your house cool down is to hang damp hessian in the door ways the air passing through the damp hessian evaporates the water and cools itself as it does so, we call it a Coolgardie Safe
It is quite effective in dry heat but not if you have high humidity
Have fun in the sun

Ok here's the thing you guys in the UK don't get It's only for a day .. going to piss it down this evening, ten degrees cooler tomorrow, a frost and snow showers early Saturday. Relentless heat for week after week isn't something we have to prepare for

Apart from not being able to stand up, walk, or dance the funky chicken, my squashed spinal cord also means my lungs work at less than 30% and I don't sweat either. I get a lecture from the GP practice every year telling me about how dangerous hot weather can be for me. You'd think that after thirty years they would have figured out I already know and pack in the 'threat to life' talking-to. Anyway .. anything above eighty is uncomfortable for me which means a choice of staying in bed all day so I can breathe more easily or getting up but having to get myself to the bathroom every now and then and soaking myself in freezing-cold water to get my temperature back to something like normal. Four bathroom trips so far, and they take planning too because if I get too hot my arms aren't strong enough to get me there and I end up stranded. Flip side is not having to go out to earn a living from day to day, and I save a fair bit in deodorant too
