That's just an extra, fat, piston ring. They were specific to the Czechoslovakian market I believe.

From the polish marks on the land between the rings, it looks like a dodgy piston or oversized piston??

The piston to bore clearance is a little on the large side. About 0.1mm, so not oversize. The polished area is weird, The ring gaps were a bit big too.
The other piston and bore is in spec. Both on 66.25mm bore, so ideally don't want to rebore, but may have to. Anyone got a spare used 66.25mm piston I can try to see if the wear is the piston or the bore??

Thanks for the offer Mr mutts, but not at Cadwell this time. May have to take it up to my engine man as he has bore measuring equipment.

If there is too much clearance its normally the top part of the piston that breaks on the exhaust side. The wear marks as Ian Boom pointed out look all wrong. The piston looks worn by the gudgeon pin as well. My money is on the piston was no good.

Andrewm is a member on here who purchased an LC with an allegedly rebuilt engine. It must have been built with all the bits of shite left over...

Does he have any recourse with the seller rob?

looks like a flaw in the casting and was turned and grooved without it coming to light ,then with the heat cycles of running it has cracked between the grooves ,been like it for a while looking at the polishing on the inside faces.just my theory thats all

Does he have any recourse with the seller rob? Seller does not want to help out at all! Off eBay, not the forum!

Was the small end bearing the right length? I think so. Will check later, but seemed to look correct.

H i guys I’m AndrewM I brought the LC a few months ago from a person on the hybrid Facebook page, I used the bike for a couple of short rides and had issues from the start. I spoke to the seller about the issues I was having and he basically told me where to go. I asked if he would be interested in helping with some cash towards the rebuild and he said he was not interested. This is the bike. image upload

It's always a gamble I'm afraid and legally it's a case of buyer beware
I'm always wary building engines for other people because with the best will in the world sh1t goes wrong I'm afraid
As the old saying goes, if it has tits or wheels it's gonna give you trouble 🤣
Concience wise though I couldn't not contribute something, even if it was just the cost of pistons and top end gaskets

I do hope they aren’t a member on here. Disgraceful, I get bikes having an issue but to blatantly bull about it, no way this didn’t have an engine issue as robs thread highlights. I was done like this years ago bought a complete engine of the old forum supposedly rebuilt didn’t touch it for 12 months when I stripped it, it was absolutely shagged, +2 pistons, barrels damaged f**ked crank etc etc etc the seller blew me off. If I ever ever meet him again and I do know who he is and where he resides some 14 years later.

I’m not really interested in naming & shaming if the guy can live with himself then lucky him, I woudant be able to. People are more worried about having money in their pockets nowadays than they are about doing the right thing. If it was me and it would of been the other way around I would not of hesitated to sort it out. I’m lucky that I’ve found a decent guy to do the rebuild for me, I said what ever the engine needs to be right do it puts me more cash out of pocket with what the bike already cost and I’ll never get a return on it but at least this way if I move the bike on I have confidence that I’ve done what’s needed for the bike to be right for the next guy👍

that can be caused by detonation as well it quite often breaks ringlands and not just holes pistons

Engine back in and running now!
Also found an issue with the front sprocket. The spacer behind was machined too thin, so the sprocket does not touch the spacer as it has bottomed out on the end of the splines. This causes about 2 to 3mm of in/out play on the output shaft/sprocket. Got another spacer being machined now.

Also found issue with throttle cable adjustments and also that the cable to the oil pump had too much play so did not start turning the oil pump straight away when you turned the throttle even on maximum adjustment. Fitted a spacer between the outer cable and the engine casing, so it moves straight away now.
