hi guys a question for all the electrical gurus ,I've got two alternators here one on the bike and one off the readings are as follows the one on bike when warm just after a ride reads red/brown leads 6.2 brown/black 280 pick/up 98.3 off bike alternator but cold on the bench reads red/brown 243 brown/black 5.3 pick/up 93.2 As you see different readings on each and manual say 271 and 5.1 +/- 10% So my question is ? are both ok to use ?equally as good as each other or is one better on the bike than the other ? If i was to go for a new direct replacement that i could fit myself what would the experts recommend ? Cheers in advance for your valuable advice , cheers Pete

Think readings are done at 20 degrees so top one most likely too hot and bottom too cold
I take it there's a typo and both high readings are from the same colours
Each seems to be slightly out. One on the high and one on the low
If either has been rewound the figures are tosh anyway
What are the readings like on the top one cold

hi steve the readings cold are (only been started and run for two mins) are 5.4 - 245 and 92 and the bike has been sat out in the sun for 10 minutes , nice sunny day too , and as far as i know neither have been rewound , well they both look identical cheers Pete

I'd say the one on the bike is as near spec as you will get
If it ain't broke ...

Don't suppose you have fitted a volt meter on the clocks/handlebars by any chance? I'd like to know if you could notice any difference between the two in real world terms? If one is wound poorly or breaking down would that result in seeing slightly less charging volts for example?? I've fitted tiny volt meters on both my bikes,.....back in the day vehicles had amp meters too, those were the days.
