Its a bit of an obvious question but otherwise a vital one, but hopefully im picking up a restored elsie tomorrow and remembering that back in the 80's four star petrol was the juice of choice So making sure i dont knacker up all the good work will normal unleaded be OK or is it recommended to use the more expensive Shell premium unleaded. Would it worthwhile using some of the octane booster additives apart from some top-brand two stroke oil to keep matters well lubed up. Im sure i remember reading somewhere that most jap-bikes from the 70's onwards were OK on unleaded but i would appreciate some advice from the club...your tips wlecomed..Cheers

Cheers fella...i just hope that when i take out for a test ride tomorrow it goes as well as looks and has no flat-spots or the powerband it too peaky etc... i know you cant be too careful when buying a 350lc just wondering what state of tune its in? The seller tells me its standard apart from the allspeeds it got on it running on a standard air-filter. Im also wondering would i need up-jetting due to the allspeeds?

The Lc needed 'premium' petrol back then 'cos 2 star did not have a high enough octane rating. As modern unleaded has a ron (research octane number) of 95 it is fine to use in the Lc motor.

Octane ratings system are mostly indeciphereable Chinese scrawl to me . I use 94.. gawd knows what rating system tho :-). Definitely 87 is too low... My old 71 super beetle didn't like that stuff.
