Spent most of this week between monsoon downpoors working on stripping the paint off the side cases, and fixing the road rash on the clutch side.
I used a rattle can engine enamel and they came out pretty good considering.
not show perfect but good enough for me.
I need to make my mind up about if to use the stock plastic disc covers or go with
Norbos nice shiny ones.
The bodywork is off to the painter at the end of next week.
and after the news that the guy who makes the LC club looms has had a bad accident
I've bought the one from Alan electrics.
It's all moving along

I'd be interested in what you think regards the loom you are getting. Still need one for my Lc hybrid, and did contemplate the ebay loom. Cases look good Norbo's bling covers are nice - I would !! Dusty

Been away on my Hols so not much has been done since, but today I picked up my head and barrels and new crank from Taymars
Also my painter left a message that he needs the rolling chassis to make all the lines match up when fitted so I gotta sort that out this week too.

So dropped the rolling chassis of to my painter today and had my first glimpse of the tank I'm stupidly excited
my painter only has the side panels to finish so I'm hoping it'll be done by the weekend.

Are you going to file the tangs off the pistons, as they are YPVS pistons in LC cylinders??? Worth doing :-)

Spent most of the day putting the gearbox into the new cases
and lapping the flywheel on the crank
then took my old BSA out for a ride in the sun
she's great fun to ride once you get you head back into the gears being on the right and upside down

YPVS barrels have two inlet ports and a bridge in the middle where the tang runs. Having the tang supports the piston more in this case. An LC has no support here. The worry is the tang will catch the bottom of the inlet port and smash the bottom off the piston. Some say there is no need to remove the tang, and have had no problem. I suspect that on a fresh bore there is no rock, so it OK. A worn barrel is a different thing. My thinking is why not just in case? It’s easy for piece of mind. Jon

I have seen two pistons with the bottom damaged from the tang hitting the port, so I file the tangs off now.

The only issue I've encountered with the new loom is that the fuse box is a lot thicker so it fouls on the side panel.
I guess this is due to it using modern blade type fuses.
I tried several different places but the best solution I found was to cut off the 4 connector block clips under the voltage rectifier.

Quick question do you guys think the old steel reeds would need replacing?
In my ownership it's never had them changed, and can you still get the stock ones?
Or is there, like a lot of stuff modern better fitments?

More progress some good so not so good I have all the electrics (not including ingition side) but I do have a problem with the rear light so some fault finding to do on that.
I tried to do some polishing of bits and bobs on the motor, and some came out better than others,
but I'm pleased with the overall look of the motor. Norbo's head and engine bolt kits add a bit of bling
I think I might need take a few mm off of the bottom hose to get the fit I want.
Hoping to have the carbs and exhausts on by the end of the weekend

I couldn't wait to put the pipes on to have a look at the bike as a whole
she's sitting a little tail low as the the new shock needs some pre-load winding in to have her sitting
right
The paint work i'm very happy with, mars bar speed blocks
