I was a bit disappointed when I first fitted rgv forks
They were soft and spongey
Try whacking up the preload or even heavier oil

You mention the steering head bearings ?
Are they moving freely ?
Is it in an LC ? Have you got the spacer under the bottom bearing on the yoke

Maybe a stupid question, but have you ever ridden this frame with other forks?

Sounds stupid but try slackening the both pinch bolts and bouncing the front and rear end up and down then tighten the pinch clamps back up, sometimes that can effect how they rude

Yes could be a good idea. When I lossen of the castle nut it went tight..
So maybe it needs to adjusted more.
It did fine fine left to right when lifted the wheel off the ground.

I agree that its a mechanical issue if its that bad, defo check that bearing, i think thats your problem.

My PV has RGV forks and an FZ600 rear swinger. When I had it it had clipons on so lots of weight over the front. I fitted std PV bars to the RGV top yoke and the thing shook its head and wanted to kill me. Im still working on getting more weight over the front without taking off to much rake angle. What it really needs is longer USD forks as the difference between the RD and the RGV forks is about 76mm in length.

Is there any movement back and forward in the forks with the front wheel off the ground , what yolks are they exactly?

Wow, 76mm, that's quite a difference isn't it !
This mod had been done loads though hasn't it , so is there something else going on here ?

It can't be 76mm
I thought it was less than half that

Are your forks straight ? Did you buy them to build your hybrid, but check them for straightness ? I fitted 10% stiffer springs from The Tuning Works to the Rgv forks on my orange hybrid, and they feel great compared to standard, tired Rgv springs. Definitely sounds like a mechanical issue. Also remember an Rgv rear swingarm is 4" longer than a stock Lc which can affect the handling characteristics. Cant remember what the difference is on a Pv but maybe not as much ? Dusty

If the steering is stiff and wanders side to side it's the head bearings too tight. Either that or you have cables routed too tight round the handlbars/headlamp. See if the bars flop left or right but not the other way If it wobbles then your wheel is out of balance. Take the calipers off and see if you have a heavy spot. If it turns left but not right (or vice versa) the forks are either not level, or one set of springs/dampers has failed. Take the wheel out and see if the spindle lines through both fork legs
Try pumping the tyres up. See what difference 35psi in the front makes, v 15psi. Sounds weird but will eliminate or confirm a tyre problem

ok been out on it today and loosened of the head set to the point where its almost a bit to lose. seems better or i an getting used to it lol the rgv forks a 45mm shorter from bolt hole to the tops the rgv rear arm is longer and the back end is higher i was thinking of changing the arm to the METMACHEX and then put fork top spacers on. that should make it the same as it was before. has anyone tried this and know someone for the for toppers? thanks for all the advise guys its good stuff.

i just remembered that the forks sit in the clipons by 25mm so they should be 20mm shorter which doesn't sound much right?

I dont remember anyone finding the handling of the RGV equipped LC to be bad at all, certainly not life threatening like this, that really points to something being wrong, perhaps a bent fork leg, broken internals or a bearing issue etc. For those wanting more weight over the front like the original RGV had, the back being higher helps and the NK conversion on the LC also has an adjustable rear shock mount so you can jack it up higher as well. The RGV forks also have the option of an Andreani kit to re-valve and spring them, but its not cheap at 500 quid. www.thetuningworks.co.uk/store/product_info.php?products_id=1357I have a set of these, but ive not fitted them yet as they were destined for my F2 hybrid build, but maybe i'll fit them in the LC's forks if i dont like em. I think for 500 quid Id go to someone who rebuilds suspension and pay for their time and effort really, obviously I didnt pay 500quid for my Andreani kit. Dusty's plan of stronger springs sound like a good plan for those who find the forks soft, I'd like to try some in my LC. £140 from the tuning works, a bit cheaper if you go for the ones on ebay etc.

Made some adjustments today
Soften the rear to bring it down a bit.. raised the front by 3mm and adjusted the bars forward a bit
Seems better.
The funny is in a sright line feels wired to me but took a corner and could feel the tyres were bigger . Kinda good feeling
Might try some clip on bars see how that feels

Does anyone make fork extenders for the RGV forks, Might be better if the forks are lower in the clamps

sound reasonable?

Does anyone make fork extenders for the RGV forks, Might be better if the forks are lower in the clamps Yes Billet bike bits will make them He also makes yokes with a step in the upper yoke to drop them I've had his "thug" yokes to fit r1 USD forks on a Fazer 1000 Steve

do these just sit on top of the forks you have with taking the forks apart?
are they safe? did some reading about them.
