Just wondering is it possible to change these without splitting the engine, mine leaks after only 500K's, the push rod itself was new on the rebuild so is in pristine condition.
If anyone is able to shed some light on this and perhaps suggest a methodology I would be extremely grateful, I really don't want to split the engine again.
Thank you
Paul

Hi Lean bike over a bit on it's right side, remove push rod and hook the old seal out. They are a push fit. It's the same part for an Lc - Lc shares a 278 part number with the aircooled models. Did you use a genuine Yam seal ? If not, you want 278-15389 00 Dusty

Thanks Dusty,
Good news !
I always use genuine seals like most I've learnt the hard way. Are you sure with that part number the parts catalogue I have for the RD250E says that the part number for the push rod seal is 237-15389-00 ? I thought it looked the same so I rummaged around in my LC boxes as I thought I had a spare, didn't find one so will have to order a couple form the local Yammie dealer tomorrow which is very likely to be ex Sydney so a five day wait.
Anyway thank you for confirming that I don't have to drop and strip the bloody thing again
Paul

Hi Paul Don't know where I got 278 from !! You are right, it's 237, and for an Lc too. I was having a "moment" obviously , so just as well you checked. It has a superceded part number now, which is 93109 08061, according to Fowlers in Bristol £3.11. The seal sits right between the 2 case halves, so when I built my last 400 engine, I applied some 3 bond around it's outer edge just to help against leaks. You can just see it in this pic; Latest Rd pics 018 by dusty miller, on Flickr Hopefully a new seal and a good pushrod will see it all leak free Dusty
