Hey Jonw did you see this? Not sure what they are trying to achieve but my first thought was a scam until I checked the email address and it seems genuine. But why?

Haha, I also thought the same and was also confused.
The consensus on Fb was that this is some kind of picture that is a one off... probably of your car?
Not at all sure why I need this tho... just toyota being 'down with the kids?' LOL

I’ve got some snake oil if you’re interested? Finest Alabama virgin rattler or a candle that smells of my wife’s poonani. Haha, totally agree. I do find it weird that Toyota are offering this (even for free) to Rallye owners when all Aus GR Yaris cars are basically sold out (they just havent admitted production will end soon) and its not like this is a sales tool, ie an extra 'cool item' in the spec to lure buyers. What buyers need extra luring? they still have a waiting and EOI list etc. And, would this really be a draw? Hmm this whole ethos is totally at odds with ToyAus trying to weed out scalpers by saying dealers should only sell cars to enthusiasts and then offering something they call an NFT which has connotations of silly sales prices for such things at auction.* To be honest considering the cost of the cars, most buyers were 40+ and many of them wondered what the hell an NFT even was when the announcement went out as far as i could tell. lol Anyway, it'll be a little bit cool if it contains your numbered plaque and a cool (cartoon?) GRY pic or something. I might use it as my avatar, or it'll just get deleted lol Im sure Chris and I will report back when we have our NFTs... who's going to start of the auction for them...!? PMSL!!! * - I was one of the early Twitter 'joiners', in the 'hundreds'. I tested it for something for work and found it wanting lol. My only ever tweet is something like 'How the hell do I get off this thing?!'. Its an NFT and from an early user, should be worth a fortune... er... message me for your own 'special price', I'll bundle it with one of Veg's wife's candles...

Completely agree Jon it’s called knowing your audience. I should imagine nft’s have zero interest to the majority of owners. I asked my 18 yr old his reply is they appeal to people with too much money and zero sense. If his generation think they have no merit who the bloody hell do they appeal to and why are they being pushed. It’s the old a fool and his money are soon parted.

Totally true Tim and in this case I think ToyAus have lost the plot, what is the point of this I wonder.
But, since its free I'll progress it lol... the price is 'right' haha.
I really saw NFTs as a flash in the pan thing when we started seeing things like the Twitter post and some iffy artworks listed as NFTs. none of it floated my boat and it all looked like just 'stuff' and being digital it was all copyable anyway. Who cares about owning an original for millions when you can have a copy for free? 99.999999% of the population is the answer.
While writing this I began wonder how old the marketing director for ToyAus is... hmm... here he is: Mr Vin Naidoo
(I couldnt watch more than a few secs of this, its not speaking my language at all...)

While writing this I began wonder how old the marketing director for ToyAus is... hmm... here he is: Mr Vin Naidoo (I couldnt watch more than a few secs of this, its not speaking my language at all...) ChatGPT threw this up on brand value: Brand value refers to the overall worth of a brand in financial terms, including both tangible and intangible assets. Tangible assets may include the physical assets of the brand, such as factories, equipment, and inventory, while intangible assets may include brand recognition, reputation, and customer loyalty. The value of a brand is influenced by a variety of factors, including the strength of the brand's reputation, the level of brand awareness, customer loyalty, and the perceived value of the brand's products or services. A brand with a strong reputation for quality, innovation, and customer service may have a higher brand value than a brand that lacks these qualities. Measuring brand value is important for companies because it helps them understand the financial impact of their brand and make strategic decisions about how to invest in and grow their brand over time. It also allows companies to track the success of their branding efforts and adjust their strategy as needed to maximize the value of their brand. I could get a job as the ToyAus marketing director

Quite a nice new video (if you enjoy Jason Cammisa, which generally I do) mostly about the GRC since they are now available in the USA, but also includes GRY (please try to forgive the Yanks awful pronunciation of Yaris as YaRRis, hmm, no wonder Toyota dont sell any Yaris in the USA, it saves all our blushes haha!) and Delta Integrale content amongst others.
What I think is interesting generally about cars and is shown here (yet again) is that tyres are a huge factor in modern AWD grip.
Er, I'll start by quietly ignoring the Golf R (as thats not a Rally car so not the subject of this thread, but is still AWD and was shown here on a poor tyre choice so gets a mention at this point.
In this video the GRC is said to have Cup 2 tyres, they dont say what the GRY is on but seeing the rear end slides its not got the OEM PS4S, more like the OEM Dunlops... which makes sense, since you can see the GRY in this video doesnt have the CircuitPack/Rallye forged wheels (just the normal multi spoke ones) and later they admit that it's a 'Pov Spec' (Aussie term, upsets thin skinned owners lol) which came with the (probably very good?) Dunlops (when used on other hot hatches)... except they arent any good when used on the GRY. In testing in Aus the same cars with dunlops were well off the pace of the PS4S cars on a circuit. The pov spec also missed out on the LSDs... this one is also said to be 257bhp, so its a EU car I think (its LHD which bears that out). Here in Aus ours are 10bhp more as we dont have the extra exhaust filteration. I reckon a CP/Rallye against the Morizo GRC would be just tipped to the GRY given the same tyres, due to less weight trying to thrown the vehicle from the track in corners... yeah, cos Physics.
Also what is said here is that 'many drivers' want to slide cars and they go on about that quite a bit. Well, nah, not me. Been there and done that. Grown up. (well, a bit) lol. I am a clean driver as I am a road driver. Slides make for slow showboating progress, driving fast across country is about being neat and tidy. The GRY's AWD and PS4S allow you to drive fast without the drama that other road users (and cops) would deem unsafe. A win/win I reckon. Jason says of the GRC Morizio 'If you are trying to be clean, this thing is SO FAST!'. Yep Id agree with that about the GRY Rallye too.
Re the CTR, the new one is much better now its less Manga but its got too many doors for me, however it was a contender when I was looking for a new car and ordered the GRY, along with the i30N. I like lots of things about it, tho if only they could make it AWD and lighter... and less long, its a barge! And, ok. lets not forget the Golf totally I guess, tho as Ive said before going sideways isnt what i want in a car... or gearbox, engine and build issues... yeah, thanks for those VW (tho of course YMMV), keep resting on those comfy laurels! I'll keep sending my money to Japan and Korea lol.
(and as a side note, I know the USA has minimal GRY exposure and this is youtube but yet again there is some incorrect info here about the GRYs bodyshell. It's not a 'converted with extra welds and glue normal yarrr-is' Jason, its a custom built high tensile steel unit designed for rallying and built as a road car for homologation only, it just happens to have that many more welds and meters of glue compared to the normal yaris and they mentioned that as they wanted to give context to the numbers, an easy mistake to make when reading specs i guess... the GRC tho, yeah thats a normal Corolla shell with extra welds and glue... totally different cars, built for different reasons...)

Chris, another NFT email today... sigh... Im really not needing an NFT...
Reproduced here for completness:
GR-ID NFT DROPPING SOON. Jon, did you hear the news? As a proud GR Yaris Rallye owner,* starting Thursday 11 May you can get your hands on your own unique GR-ID NFT. NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) are unique tokens stored on a blockchain. Essentially, they are a way to prove that a digital asset is one-of-a-kind and cannot be replicated or replaced. 1. Keep an eye on your inbox for your unique code. 2. Mint your NFT to receive a one-of-a-kind digital artwork. 3. Unlock a $50 Digital Visa gift card.1 Plus, once you’ve received your NFT and unlocked your gift card, you can evolve your NFT for even more red-hot rewards. To evolve, simply spend $300 on Toyota products or services within the OneToyota Network2 in Australia (for example, by servicing your vehicle) and provide proof of purchase before Saturday 11 November 2023, 11:59pm AEDT. More to come! Questions? Please contact nft.support@toyota.com.au
SAFETY TIPS • Only refer to official announcement channels: nft.toyota.com.au, nft.support@toyota.com.au and noreply@communication.toyota.com.au. • Never share your digital wallet credentials, private key or seed phrase. • When purchasing NFTs from a marketplace, always verify the authenticity of NFT collections. Look for collections that have been verified by the marketplace. • Always check wallet transactions (such as transfers of tokens) closely before confirming a transaction. • Be aware that Toyota Australia will never ask you for cryptocurrency at any point during this program.
The asterisk is to say that its only the numbered Rallye cars that can get this, ie sold pre Nov '22. So I reckon this is based on the number of the car.
Hmm.... It sounds like you'll have to create a wallet and all sorts to get this, and yet we still have no idea what it is... and i really dont think any owner needs this?!
As a marketing exercise... horse/stable door... as mentioned before etc

Yes JonW I received it and the first thing I really noticed was the poor attempt at a pun "The suspens(ion) is thrilling us". I also note there ain't no such thing as a free lunch, so the $50 digital Visa gift card must have a cost.

I also note there ain't no such thing as a free lunch, so the $50 digital Visa gift card must have a cost. Yeees.. I also noticed the poor attempt at a pun, not least as the last set of 'offer emails' they sent were about the 'GR86 10th Anniversary' and they never actually ever got round to sending a 'click here to go in the draw to be allowed to buy one', so their digital marketing failed them and i wondered if this would be the same. As an aside I did sit in a GR86 10th anniv at the dealer when i had my GRY serviced the other week, its the Subaru orange from 2012 from the Club Spex limited edition i think. Im not a fan, its a dull colour and very Vegemite/Marmite. I was happy to see the 10th anniv script on the door cards was less brash than in the pics and i liked the orange stitching. price is about 1k over list of the high spec and they only had one car of course as there are only 86 and the club were offered it first so some sold - although it was reported 4ish months back that it was oversubscribed, this is proof it really wasnt lol. They had has this 'rare' 'one only' car in the showroom for 2wks (i expect thats really a month, salesmen do tend to adjust the facts) and its not sold yet, I suspect its a colour issue. I expect it'll sell to someone who wants a GR86 and needs a car 'now' and cant wait after an accident wrote their car off, its that kind of sale - 'we can get you a grey GR86 in 9months, or you can have this lovely orange limited edition today sir/madam and its only one of 86 cars and very sought after, you're lucky we have it etc etc. Anyway... I think the pay off with this NFT is getting us to sign up to some kind of crypto wallet/NFT trading platform or something like that. Perhaps the $50 is only for that platform, if its generic I can use it at the supermarket then I expect thast where it'll go.... tho im not signing up to a lot of BS sites who will get hacked and expose my data of course. I guess we'll see how this pans out, but it seems ill thought out and just crap none of us Rallye drivers need at this point.

Got email from ToyAus.... and... Minted my NFT... Exciting? nah... not at all, it didnt work properly and was confusing and defo pointless as an exercise. Great. For those who know Aussie parlance... Ive NFI what to do with this NFT... Its NF Useful.... The Nft is actually a 'weird video thing' with started/revved engine sounds and swishy graphics while spinning around a pearl white GRY, ie a 'Rallye' and hence why it was only open to Rallye owners who bought between the start date and nov 22 as those are all pearl white. You have to spend $300 at Toyota before they give you anything else and that seems to be ways to adjust the weird video that is the nft itself. The extra things... A racing helmet signed by Rally driver Harry Bates... for the first 20 to do it. Looks like >50 people did it before me so I didnt 'win' that. not sure what id do with that, but im sure it has a value being physical and not a virtual thing like an NFT is lol I tried to get the $50 visa card but I need yet another app on my phone to get it. meh. I could DL it, use and then delete it i guess... Do I need $50 that badly? I could use it towards the car service i guess?

Ok, so there is zero point to this and it doesnt add at all to owning the car at all. All very weird indeed.
What is interesting... It seems there is only provision for 450 of these, hmm... There has to be over 800 Rallye GRY, as weve seen numbers (each car is numbered) go over 800, so why so few?*
* - cos people will see this as pointless perhaps? HAHAHAHA!

I gave it a go when the email arrived but it seemed like adding too many extra apps and accounts for as you say JonW no value in the end. But then again I might be very old fashioned and you never know someone might just want to pay extra to buy my car with its NFT.

But then again I might be very old fashioned and you never know someone might just want to pay extra to buy my car with its NFT. Haha, I was tempted to type simply 'NFW' lol. The only app you need is the one for the digital $50, the other one you can just aceess with an email addy and the number the first site provides and then the VIN and the email code. Its way too convoluted a process with too many codes, but its easy enough i guess. The fixed price service is now listed at $300 and within 6 months that youre given everyone should be able to get a free 'Evolve' I guess, but luckily for me the dealer I use seems to charge the old $260 price. So it wont happen for me, ahh well....

84 now. I was trying to use my phone before and it was not working, so used the desktop. Why would they assign at random and not according to the individual number?

|
|
Post by JonW on May 12, 2023 3:34:01 GMT 1
Yep, I thought exactly the same; its totally weird isnt it. Have a car thats numbered and then ignore it... perfect! lol! I think the word 'Random' was poorly used, as youre right it really isnt random... ie from what i can tell they simply assign the next number in the sequence... so, its not random at all. Maybe its poor use of English? what they mean is that the computer gets to choose... or that you wont get the number of your numbered car*... Or that you cant personally guarantee what you'll get etc. (FWIW I think I do really know why they arent assigning them to the car'd edition numbers... its cos they never recorded them against the VINs. The plaques with the numbers were stuck on when the car came through the main import yard along with the Rallye boot badge, with the spare (why do we have this??) plaque then tucked in with the books in the nasty cheapo thin paper n plastic folder that my supplying dealer provided, sigh its sooo nasty, no one else in the industry does this so cheaply... Anyway, the guy doing the work just reached into the box of plaques and pulled out a set and got to work, then the yard shipped the cars out without a second thought. The random picking of the plaques from the box of them is why the numbers were all over the place on the deliveries etc.) Anyway... this new idea is typical of the poorly thought out things it seems ToyAus do, its not like we need this or wanted it. Gives us something to talk about I guess lol FWIW I went for the $50 gift card. Simply DL the app (it gets a stellar 1.7 stars on Google Play lol) and that gives you the card... then you have to add it to Google Pay Wallet, or apple if you are so inclined, to enable it to be used. I never use my phone to pay so figured I'd give this a go next time i go to supermarket or the fuel station, then when spent I'd simply delete the card and the app (always glad to remove an app lol). It should just work like any digital gift card I guess. I'm considering it might go towards a case of beer... exactly what any car company would not want you to spend it on! * - Weirdly I actually did get some of the numbers in my car's number lol

PMSL... FWIW I drove mine in a huge storm today, pea sized hail only luckily, as i was rushing to get undercover and was seriously motoring unlike my usual more sedate drives locally. I will say that the PS4S when cold are not the same 'magnetically stable' road stickers they are when warm if hammering it on iffy back roads, it seems the dash warning to warm the car up is also about the tyres lol It certainly was more lively and yes it was a bit fun, but i was soaked thru to the skin and worried about bigger hail so very focused.

Im not sure about this post...
I sort of thought this thread would make a good repository for all videos and chat about JDM WRC road cars etc etc blah blah... and then i saw this video...
well Im not sure what the hell is going on here... I will admit ive not watched it fully, I just liked the driving bits... I will admit that i was a bit confused by the shouting and storyline, er...
Anyway... its craziness means Im including it cos its manic nature and the fact someone allowed a jacuzzi bath to be shoved into their 22b (even if its a rep its still silly valuable)...
(there are other videos from these guys, the Opel driving the country lanes is superb if youve nothing better to do PMSL)

So...if Toyota and F1 think that Hydrogen is the way forward why are governments still pushing electric crap? Surely they must know by now that idea is never going to work.
