Freedom freedom freedom OI! Great news Jon, enjoy life mate! Alex Haha, too funny Alex. Thanks mate! Luckily the lock down ended and the Evo didnt run out of Rego... thats road tax for you Poms lol. It needed a pink slip (MOT) by the 25th of this month so i could pay the taxing bill along wth compulsory third party insurance, so us opening up this week was a godsend. So today in the unseasonal rain* I took that down to my mates workshop today and of course it passed. No pix sadly but he was being over-run by GC8s that all needed pink and blue (a larger mot that is done for vehicles that have been off the road for 3+ months) slips and other work. A lovely WRC blue Version 5 STI which would have been good to have pics with the Evo (same year so 'competitors'), but it was being worked on at the other end of the workshop. bummer. * - Amusingly in the video above Clay Wong mentioned that Henry Nuygen's black V is on the same tyres as mine, Hankook Ventus RS4. He called them 'semi slicks', I call them 'track day tyres'. They are a dry tyre really and are wonderful in our summer, but funnily enough they work pretty well on wet roads as well... so this wasnt ever a problem I was worried about, in fact i wouldnt have minded a bit of a slide about, tho the traffic was mental. It was like the day before xmas or something, every man and his dog was out and about in the storms doing all those jobs they havent been able to do for 3 months+. Anyway, the Evo is always rock solid on all roads it seems, even in the worst puddles it finds grip. Gotta love that from an almost 25 year old 'classic car'.

Freedom freedom freedom OI! Great news Jon, enjoy life mate! Alex Meanwhile in Melbourne we are locked down and have a 15km travel limit with a 9pm to 5am curfew. I cannot even get to my cars to drive them as they are parked in a factory 25kms away. Jonw, any idea when Toyota Australia will start taking orders again?

The joys of dealing with the dealer... sigh.
Ive bought a lot of new cars over the years and quite enjoy a haggle, but I know many people are terrified by car sales people and can feel at a disadvantage trying to fight their corner in the dealer domain, they say they feel rail-roaded into deals they dont like which puts them off going in and buying cars and its become a hated task. Not at all what you need for the 2nd most expensive item you buy in your life (after houses). Anyway, not for me really... the setting and BS usually doesnt bother me, I know their games etc as Ive done this a lot, but even I am thinking that the sooner the role of 'car sales person' is removed from the equation the better we will all be. Its an out dated concept and ill at ease with the modern world. People want facts and truths, not lies. Often if you are even mildly proficient with a computer the customer can check what theyve been told...
So... not content with trying to nab my delivery the other month; this is today's tail of woe.
Im due to collect my new GRY at 4:30pm today. It was due in at the dealer on Friday and I was asked to pay the balance on Friday. I was told they needed 3 full days to PDI the car and that the money had to be in their accounts for 2 full days as cleared funds before they would allow the car to go. I asked for a photo when it arrived at the dealer, I expected that on Friday from what was said in the conversation.
I certainly expected the photo by Monday. I'd had nothing so I emailed the sales person. nothing. I expected that in the same message I would receive confirmation the funds had landed at the very least... Its not a big job to mollify a customer with that info, most people who send the thick end of £30k to someone would probably like some feedback that they received it, right?
Today is Wednesday, the day of delivery. 9am I get a call. 'We cant deliver today... we havent got your car here on site... Toyota dont know where it is... Its in the system but its not yet hit our central yard, let alone arrived with us on site, it could still be on the docks, where it landed in September. The system now says its due at that yard on the 20th.. I dont really have any other information... we are trying to find out whats going on for you...'
So...
you waited until today, the day of delivery to let me know this isnt happening? Thats professional... sigh. What if id sold my other car and arranged insurance to start etc?
Hmmm... so, the only date you have at least a week away from today and that's not my pick up date as its just the next point in the process; you dont have an exact date for the actual delivery? So you called me with no real answer to the main question you knew i would pose?
And... delayed cars are in my experience often cars that were damaged in shipping and needed repair. I will not accept a repaired car... I will be checking this with a fine toothed comb then.
and of course, a side subject: youve had my money and are now earning interest on it while I am not. How are you going to rectify that? Its not like buying a car is a tenner or anything, its a proper chunk of change...
In the convo she tripped up over some of the lies she'd previously told (to be a good liar you need to have a really good memory!) and created new lies along the way in the call today. FWIW You can often tell a serial liar (not just cos their profession is car sales lol) by the fact they say things like 'As you know Im a straight shooter...' Not least of course when you already have evidence this one is anything but...
Right now I was led to believe there are calls being made all over the network to find out what is going on. Senior people are involved (her boss who ive met and actually did my deal with) and they are trying to work out where my car is and what the issue and dates will be. I doubt there is quite such a flurry of activity, but they are surely on the back foot with this. They are going to call me back when they know something... I wonder when that will be?!
The joys... youd think for many this would be a joyous thing to do. Not everyone has the opportunity to buy a new car and the whole experience should be one of pleasure and not pain, certainly once the hard part of the deal and the payment is done.
Today's post here on this forum was going to be all smiles, a pic and some superlatives. But, its not.

That's a right p1sser Jon, you are taking it well
I'd have been livid that they asked for payment for a car They don't have, I'd want it back untill they can explain themselves

Jon .... That's ridiculous.... They lied to you saying the car was in their yard..... Unfortunately, they got you by the short and curlies..... If it was me I wouldn't piss them off cos they are holding all the cards, so to speak.... At least the showroom is just down the road..... You're gonna have to bite your lip and go on massive charm offensive to get the car you have paid for.... Mad innit

I had a similar story this time last year except it was Audi three times i went to see the car after making an appointment (100 miles round trip) for them to say they had no idea where the car was

I'm amazed by this. I've never bought a car from a dealer, new or otherwise but this level of 'service' is appalling. I sure hope you get the car Jon, but as you say go over it with a fekkking microscope to make sure it's not damaged. No doubt after you have the car you can tell the staff there what a bunch of lying incompetent arsewipes they really are, tell everyone you know and never, ever go back again. Unreal.

Ive escalated this now as its not acceptable or good customer service and am now dealing with the general manager (who i actually did the deal with anyway) and weve already spoken a few times today.
The latest is that apparently there is a component they needed to fit from the main warehouse in Melbourne and its coming today to be fitted. He said a bunch of GRYs are waiting for the same part...
Ok, now that could be true or they could have damaged mine and its a smoke screen. Defo a fine toothed comb on delivery...
There are a few things that do need to be fitted when the car lands in Aus, bit least the numbered Rallye plate and the badge on the back, but who knows...
Ive been given a free first service... wonder what oil they will use... you have to laugh, or youd cry haha*
In joke with GRY owners. Toyota dealers are consistently using the wrong oil in services. You have to be on them, theyve no real idea about this car...

We've received one so far and that arrived with a control module missing that wasn't available during production, it arrived 2 weeks after we received the truck. I'm told 2 more will arrive tomorrow but again we don't know if any parts are missing to be fitted by the dealership. Strange times at the minute. There's no excuse for a poor sales person or dealership not being truthful and keeping you informed but right now I think an awful lot is out of their control.

I hear you but I dont think the GRY has this problem. They had all the parts needed to build them in August when mine was built, in fact according to the schedules GRY production was only going to be stopped 2 days in total and those were sept/oct. Its either an Aussie compliance plate or the Rallye 'items' which are a ToyAus thing... or it been damaged... tho we had a massive hail storm in Sydney today, if it was outside at the docks or yard its going to need PDR if it was in an unlucky suburb. Time will tell...

Good news... pickup is scheduled for Friday! Ive found out what part it was missing... and its a weird one. It was missing the Rallye badging (numbered plaque and badge on the back) which they couldnt get shipped up from Melbourne (and it was late into them) due to the huge postal issues here. The car could well be delivered without the badges and they be applied later.

Yes, Im still a bit wary of the condition of the car and will be looking for any repairs, but apparently there were 70 cars awaiting the same parts so maybe its a real thing... using the number 70 is excessive even for a car sales person lol.

Richard Burns' Evo 5 GSR for sale... only has 793miles on the clock and an interesting story. A snip at £125k... but, where would you find another with these miles and provenance? Sadly like an LC with the same miles/condition, it'll never be driven and only stored as a museum piece. I always think mine is pretty good compared to the majority of cars out there now being low miles, but its not basically new like this one. Its also not worth this kind of money lol. Ahh still? nightmare Chris. Toyota have an EOI list. If you want one you should get on that list. The theory is that 1, the list proves the desire for another batch to be ordered, 2, the list is used to offer the fall overs (failed deals, usually finance not granted) around to people who want them. You can also call dealers and see what they have. It would seem that country dealers often have stock cos they ordered them but no one is buying out in the sticks, they want something more suited to their day to day etc. Its said that your local dealer can get that stock and have it transferred or you can just buy and hae it delivered straight from the country dealer to you, some will include transport in the deal. Beware tho, lost of dealers are asking more than RRP now, tho you may well strike lucky. Some guys have also said tho that a few extra $k is preferrable to be driving this weekend over a long wait... money talks i guess!? Contacted Toyota and they returned my call. Haha. Salesman did not know anything about anything. Just told me they were not taking any orders and when I said I wanted to be added to the expression of interest list, he had no idea that it even existed. I then said if any become available because any people that had ordered changed their mind (and it has been many months and buyers change their minds or their circumstances change), again it was a blank. I much prefer buying on line where I can do my own research, but this just confirms it. I see that more car manufacturers are moving to the Tesla model of fixed price. It will be interesting to see if anything changes. I might have to escalate to someone in Toyota who know what they are talking about. Anyway jonw, I might soon be able to travel north to pick up some parts near Newcastle and would love to drop by. I'm double vaxxed, lol.

Nice Evo V, and even at that low a mileage, you can see it's had some work done underneath (would like to know exactly what, I have read the article) were the control arms alloy like the VI, as I thought they were all changed during the recall?

Be careful tho, if youre going to the Hunter and not what is called Greater Sydney as they are treated differently, ie right now I cannot go to the hunter from Sydney, i would be fined.

Yes they mentioned they did some refurbishment on it, but as you say they didnt elaborate. Thats a shame but its very pretty underneath. The Front arms are defo alloy, I had mine off in Jan to fit new lower ball joint boots. These arms come complete with bushes and the ball joint, none of which are separate parts which is a pain. Luckily my ball joints were fine, I just needed new boots which you can still get OEM.
