Got it yesterday.... Love it but hate the start stop button thingy... I've turned off the keyless entry, but not having a normal key to start it is a pita..... Suppose I'll get used to it in time

Can you not turn off the stop/start craporama? Alex Yep can turn that off, and have done, but have to sort of swipe the key fob over the start stop button to get ignition on... Prefer old fashioned key ... I've turned keyless off .... Don't fancy that

Wahooo! Congrats Murp!
The start/stop is just a button you either switch off each time you start the car. Instead you can switch to Sport mode and it goes off automatically as part of that change in rear axle mode. Best alternative might be to get one of those leccy whizz things wired in and it will do it for you every time, I'll probably do that. But then there is also LTA to get rid of as well... thats modern cars for you. My WRX has none of this to do and i know it will annoy me with the GRY to do it, but thats the price of progress. None can be switched off fully by a dealer from what ive been told.
Surprised you disabled it, I love keyless entry. Why on earth did you switch it off? I can simply walk up to car, touch handle and it unlocks, get in and sit, then just reach out and push the start button and it starts. So simple and no key needed, stays in your pocket. Love that about the modern world.
Other than those niggles, how was the drive back home?

Disabled the keyless because I've heard that it's more of a theft risk, but I could always get a Faraday cage for the key.... The drive home was all good.... It's really difficult to keep tabs on your speed, so the HUD is excellent.... This car is fast .. Really so pleased I got convenience and not cct pack for that feature alone, but I know you get it all on rallye

Yes there is a lot said on the forums about disabling the keyless, but i'd be gutted to have to do that. I would defo not disable a feature on a car that is good on the off chance that a tea leaf maybe decides one day to nick it. This is like all the security at airports we have now cos of terrorism; and they say terrorism hasnt won - i beg to differ. I'd not let a thief ruin this for me, but I am not you of course. You could defo put the key in a special box (as you say a faraday cage) out of the way from the front door when at home so that it's covered (see what i did there lol) when its not being driven at least? So far there has only been 1 GRY weve heard thats been stolen. Happened since I last said there were none. me n my big marf! lol Ok, not funny... but twas a weird one: The car was overnighting inside a car hifi place and the scroats broke in to steal speakers and the GRY was a bonus for them as it was in the workshop awaiting an install with keys in it. They drove it 10miles (full of boxes of speakers i guess). It was found the next day as the guy tracked it using the Toyota supplied MY T app (the car talks to Toyota's servers all the time in the uk, not here it seems) which knew its location. He went with the cops to collect it and they dusted for prints etc. Car was fine. In fact its worth noting that the GRY when cold will not rev hard plus it'll only rev to 4k when not in motion. Lots to protect the engine when cold and from being hammered etc. Anyway, Im not classing that as a 'real theft' as such as they didnt target the car, it was just happenstance. Plus no insurance claim, the guy never even told em i dont think. Haha, yes love the fact there is a HUD! defo glad all our versions come with it. Have you driven the Puma since you got it? might feel its years when you do Glad the drive home was good, you'll defo have a blast even running it in. Roll on 3 weeks... if they havent found another excuse not to give me my car, hmmm...

It's not a gr Yaris thing.... Plenty of cars here are being stolen via relay theft, if there's keyless entry on the car... Range rovers, mercs, BMW's... Lots are disappearing because of keyless entry and the scrotes using equipment to mymic the key...but I admit it is less convenient

Looks a hoot to drive murp, can't wait to even see one, did see a lovely graphite or grey, Yaris the other day, but suppose that was a hybrid version? Do these only come in white?
I also thought the latest (2018+) keyless keys stop 'transponding' a signal after a few mins, and went into shutdown because of this very reason. Keep mine in one of those pouches that blocks the signal.

If you saw a grey one it probably wasnt a GRY, unless it was wrapped.
You can more easily tell its a GRY by the black roof and also the width of the stance, these are pretty wide and look like a Yaris body has been say on/in the tub of a larger car almost. if you know what i mean.
I think these keys do stop transmitting, but I dont know. I have keyless on the WRX and love it, but Aus is not UK for thefts so not going to comment. Worth a read of the GRY forum Murp in case something useful was posted on there, I cant think swiping the key on the ignition is any fun at all every trip... it is one of many buttons and things to press tho lol.
Im so excited for you Murp to be out there enjoying your car. Im jealous in a good way etc. Hearing about it is driving mine vicariously I guess lol.
Have you got into the center diff modes yet? I am most excited to use Track as thats more like the old Scooby etc. Roll on 3 weeks.....

Jon... Briefly tried sport mode, can definitely feel car pushing rather than pulling you along...... It's subtle...., the way I drive, probably makes no difference, but glad it and track are available.....turned keyless back on, and put key to sleep when parked to prevent relay theft..... Latest annoyance is the door open chime.... Wish I could turn that off permanent.... I'm used to a basic annolog car..... Gonna take time to get used to all this new stuff

Heehee, cool! Glad youve been out having fun Murp We are due to come out of lock down in the 2nd week of Oct... with luck the same day I get my car... fingers crossed! Cool on keyless, glad you found a way. Weird on the chime, I thought Paolo managed to turn his off, but looking at the thread now hes now saying it wont go away. gr-yaris.co.uk/forum/threads/remove-lock-unlock-beeping-and-door-open-beeps.4320/#post-92301I did wonder if its a JDM rule that keys are not allowed to be left in the ignition for some reason with the door open, even my 1998 Evo does this as well. If im working on the car with the door open I pull the key and put it on the floor or in the centre console, tho thats not ideal of course. I guess we'll have to get into the habit of switching off and removing the key before opening the door. Actually... thinking about it. This may well save your life. One thing modern cars have (GRY included) is stop/start. After a while before the battery goes flat a stopped car will restart itself to charge its battery. If you drive into your garage and then get out and absentmindedly leave the key in the car after its stopped itself (as it thinks youre at say a traffic light). you go into the house and not give the car a 2nd thought but sometime later it restarts itself in the closed garage. If that garage is internal then the resulting carbon monoxide can kill the household. ISTR that this has happened and been in the news. Perhaps this is a better use of a few drops of Castrol R? Detect that smell and know your car is running. (seriously please no one do that lol) So maybe its not an awful inconvenience, just something to learn to live with. The bit im dreading is that my 2016 WRX is a get in and go car. The GRY is sadly not. I think this will be me on every start up: start car then start pushing buttons; Rev matching to on, lane guidance to off, diff to Track, start/stop to off etc I know some of these can be automated with some wire-in modules, but meh tis annoying. Pleased youre discovering stuff and enjoying it mate, loving the fact one of us has their car already

haha, that's funny Tim. Some think these are small and some say they are huge. Depends what youre comparing to or what youve read i guess. Next to your Chim it would look like an SUV Id think lol All new models of cars seem to grow by a half size every iteration. ie modern Polo is now only a few mm shy of the length of a Mk3 Golf... and is actually wider! Small cars like the Yaris are now the next size up and some, thats why they introduce smaller cars under em i guess. ie Aygo is same width and 15cm shorter than the og (1999) yaris, it'll grow tho.* It is true tho that the wheelbase of the GRY is the wide and long although and its not actually 'huge', but the bit the humans occupy is not that big at all. Anyway... some pics for comparison: * - for comparison a GRY is almost 15cm wider and 38cm longer than the 1999 yaris! Totally different cars of course, thats 20 years for you...

Excellent Jon, i had one of these in 2010 the best Scoob i've ever had, bought for £8k and sold for the same a year later to a guy in Holland. Wish it was still on my drive! Andy. Ohhhh Supercool! I wished I'd got a 2 door when i could have done, would have loved one. you were one of the lucky ones to have had one at all i reckon Andy. I remember when they came out and a guy I knew got one and I'd just got my MY00 blue GC8. His P1 was a stunner and I wished I'd had the extra money to grab one, closest i got was a set of used P1 wheels lol. Vids are pretty good really, guy is funny and they have stripped it now, keen to see what they need to do to it as it doesnt look awfully rusty. He has some other great cars in his garage including a 22B and a TME so it'd be nice if he did some back to back comparisons. Hi Jon, found a pic of my old P1 and a Bugeye i had which was mega clean, and a couple of other cars too. The Jag was a bit of a handfull! Andy. Ohh lovely! I had much the same Elise (mine was a pile of junk, even from new sadly). Loving the TVR, Ive made no secret that Id love another one so great cars, flawed but in a good way. The Jag might be worth buying again before they go mental as collectors cars, its already too late for the others in the pics Loving the Scoobys. The P1... ahh... so much want! A guy here has imported a few the past year and was selling one recently, its not cheap but I would have been tempted if id not had the GRY on the way. I keep hoping i'll stumble over a 2 door GC8 mislisted in the classifieds by someone who just wants rid of an old car and doesnt know what they have lol. Wont happen but nice to dream

Oh yes! there will be the odd pic now and then To get us started I'll post this for Murp, its his... not that Im a tiny bit jealous seeing how he has his and I dont yet lol Hope you dont mind me posting it here mate, but it shows the flaps and thats important. These are the Rallyflapz shortiez mudflaps he got. I have the longer version as they didnt launch the short ones until 2 days after I ordered mine. hmm... I may cut mine down to be like these (cheers for the dimensions Murp!) as I like the shorter look. Sadly these cars do need the flaps or the paintwork down the side of the car suffers. In the pics you can clearly see the front tyre even with the wheels straight ahead sticks out, ie the tyre can be viewed around the side of the curved-in bodywork of the wing and door. That gap allows stones and dirt past and up the side, where they are caught by the bulbous rear wheel arch! Arggghhh!

Yep... No probs you posting the picture at all 👍.... Imo the gr isn't very photogenic, like the LC.... Both look much better in the flesh..... But I caught it from one of its better angles here.... I'm rubbish at taking photos, but sometimes get a good one

Interesting on the lack of photogenic thing. I always think the same when i look at my XT500 in pics. It looks bitty and strange, like a different bike, in pics to me. Very unlike the actual bike in the metal to my eyes. I wonder if that's cos your eye is drawn to the larger areas of the thing youre looking at rather than the sticky-out (technical term!) parts around the periphery that seem to be more visible in photos. hmm...
Anyway, how's the running in going?

Well, my GRY progresses... I guess.
The dealer asked me to pay them on Friday, but I also asked them to provide me a proof of life photo. I didnt get the photo but like a lemming i still paid them as I dont want to cruel the delivery day or Wed or Thur next week.
So, lots of cash sent, nothing to show for it... yet!
Pic hopefully by the end of the week....

Perhaps more successful... 2 GRY Vids...
FWIW Ive tried to avoid posting every GRY vid here that comes up, no one would want that and most are very samey. These two make the cut as they are different and dont follow the usual youtube mould as such so are hopefully worth watching.
Aussie one
you'll have to read along with this one lol
Amusing Marc mentions how he tends to drive leaving the GRY in the lower gears in the video, thats how i drive the evo. Hmm, I'll find out soon I guess but that might annoy me too... as it does in the Evo, since its at the sweet spot so always wants to 'GOOOO!'. Its hard to drive like that round town lol
Today is Freedom Day in NSW. 106 days of lockdown are finally over... and I should have a new car to play with soon too. Wow things are looking up after not being able to leave our burbs for so long!
