Anybody got a reasonable complete rd400 engine they may want to sell. I recently built a nice air cooled special (which is due to be featured in next air cooled club magazine) The engine is a 350 R5,that has a few niggly problems,I can’t make up my mind wether to rebuild that or go for a 400 motor. Availability and cost may affect my decision, may even consider an rd350 motor Cheers Baz

It would probably be cheaper to rebuild your 350 engine. Complete 400 engines are fetching big money now £700 upwards IF you can find one.
I have run my rd as a 350 for a number of years now, but was tempted down the 400 route. Very little difference in performance but a little more torque from the 400.
Good luck with whichever way you decide to go with it.

I was shocked at the prices on 400 bikes and parts when I was looking earlier this year I did consider buying a complete bike for the engine, for the café racer project, but stoopid prices, even for ropey bikes, made the decision of a Pv engine all the more easier. I still look though !! Dusty

I'm going ypvs with the build I'm just starting. I have the 400 motor sat on the bench but i think the ypvs may be more interesting. Not for the purists though 😉

Yes ypvs in an aircooled, it's not what other people do so I thought it would be interesting. TZ tank and clip-ons type look.
I would consider selling the 400, its a complete running engine I took out of one of my bikes a few months ago, I have a set of ported barrels that I was considering fitting to make it a little more entertaining.
Things have been on hold for a few weeks now whilst I reassembled my 250f.
Just to many balls to try and juggle at one time. LOL

Hi Dusty, yes I have a nice alloy tank its the larger one with the two petrol taps. To be honest it was having the tank sat there that prompted me to start thinking about building something. Lots of bits in boxes at the moment though. Cheers, Stuart.

Hi reedpete, I don't think I have a set of 2R9 carbs but I shall have a look for you. There may be an odd carb amongst my spares. I'll let you know.
Cheers, Stuart.
