I’m thinking of investing in a set of Gibson expansion chambers. Before I go and spend £600, I thought I’d ask for opinions from those properly in ‘the know’.
Are these decent quality in terms of build, fit and performance?
Will I need to make any modifications such as rejetting or centre stand removal?
Am I better off just replacing the damaged (it’s split and I’ve no idea how!!) right hand pipe with another standard one on an otherwise completely standard, matching numbers 1980 350LC?
Decisions decisions...

hi rich a friend has just received a set and went for the black chrome ones... apparently they are no longer doing the black chrome.. I belive they are using the same press tools from way back in the 80's.. regarding the jetting I would go up a couple and do plug chops to see were you are..

Got some on mine, and whilst I'm happy with them, if I was looking for some pipes I'd give my money to someone else Waiting time is atrocious, but once they arrive that's forgotten, they look the biz, and very old school cool, allspeed were a favorite back in the day, and they still look and sound great, and fit extremely well BUT, things have moved on a great deal from those days in design of pipes, Gibson's and allspeeds are and never were a power pipe, if your looking for a big performance gain, then nope not these, TSA will do that for you, want a midrange monster, pipes developed by mutts on here for that, things have moved on .
Did I say they look the nuts tho.

I've had a couple of Lc's with small can Allspeed/Gibsons. As said, they are not known for a huge increase in power like some pipes. You may see some gain, but nothing like Tsa's or Mutts' pipes. For most guys who choose Gibsons, it's about the look and the sound as opposed to performance, and for me, there is no better looking pipe for an Lc than small can Gibson/Allspeeds. Dusty

All the above is true, decide what you want from the bike, then choose accordingly. Youll be happy with the Gibson's if that's your choice.

I like allspeeds , a classic lc exhaust , but mine are about 5 years old , and they have broken where the baffle goes into the rear taper , on both sides Probably internal corrosion aided with vibration The bloke on the phone at allspeed was somewhat dis-interested to say the least Get mutts , tyga or tsa pipes I’d say Tho if you want allspeed style lomas and higspeed do them A pic just because Mike

I had Gibson’s. Fitted well but from day one I wasn’t happy with the quality of the chrome. 3 yrs on and the chrome is now starting to pit and flake off in places. Iv changed them now but if I was going to get another set I would arrange to have them chromed myself.

I was in the market this year to buy new pipes for the Lc I'm building currently. There are probably more makes and types of pipes available for our bikes now than ever before - we are very lucky in that respect - and of course, the internet has made sourcing pipes from foreign manufacturers even easier. As much as I love small can Allspeed/Gibsons, my choice for this bike was with Muttsnuts' all round performance pipes, in stainless, with detachable 6" ally cans; 20180901_184720 by David Miller, on Flickr Excellent quality, super light (Allspeeds are a heavier pipe) and great value, and turnaround time is normally about a week I believe !! I also have stainless Tsa pipes on my other bike, again with 6" cans, and I think they look awesome too; 20180217_111701 by David Miller, on Flickr But the Lc I sold this year had the Allspeed/Gisons, which looked lovely too; 20180130_135926 by David Miller, on Flickr And a vid on the phone will never do them full justice, but here is one anyway; 20171109_104443 by David Miller, on Flickr Dusty

Go for TSA pipes. The No speeds are only slightly better than Factory yama pipes. Which wouldn't be an issue IF?? the no speeds were 100 gbps. which they apparently are Not. That's 500 GBPs of foregone Beer money IMO.

If performance isn't your main concern, then looks/fit/quality is probably more important. I don't think anyone fits Allspeeds for a massive power gain. It's more about looks and nostalgia - guys like to fit what they had "back in the day", and the fact the Allspeeds are still the same pipe, that's good enough for most. But, that design is getting on for 40 years old, so "modern" designs are gonna make more power of course, and in the ranges you need it on the road. Allspeeds will fit straight on, keeping your centre stand, will be a be lighter than standard pipes and give a bit more performance. You "usually" don't need to upjet, but always worth checking fuelling after changes of course. The ones I've had have always had good chrome, but as others have reported problems I would be wary now. Maybe you could get them made in stainless ? No chrome issues ! These were made from marine grade stainless; DSCN1124 by David Miller, on Flickr I loved the Allspeeds look - especially the way they swept under the engine and then out under the pegs. Plus they were fairly short so suited the Lc imo. But either Mutts' or Tsa's do the same, and you can specify a short can if you wish, and they will do stainless, no problem Dusty

I did look at Kenny’s website for the TSA expansion chambers but the website isn’t functioning so I presume he’s no longer trading.
I also looked at Mutts site and although he lists expansion chambers for the YPVS, I couldn’t see any listing for 350LCs.
Cheers

With in the last 12 months, I wanted the old school look But got peed off waiting, when I chased them it was You’re on the list! So spoke to Kenny who had a set ready. If you’re quoted 10-12 weeks you could push it to 13-14 weeks not 10 months! I’ve used TSA and Performace Fabrications before with out issues, just booked it in and sorted. I’m sure the same can be said for Mutts pipes. Jess
