just seen on bbc1 news that cars 18 years old + are going to be scrapped and 40 percent of germans have scrapped or traded in there old cars for newer ones, ?what do forum members think to this, this is the next step to get the poorer people off the road so only the rich or well off can drive and feed the government more money

its not forced scrapping of old cars just cash incentives to buy newer more green cars

It's not the old cars that want scrapping (coincidence that you can get free road tax on old cars, call me cynical), it's the old drivers that need scrapping.
Take their licences away at, say, 70. That should help free the roads up.

i cant see it happening either,a possability could be stricter mot tests to keep rotton motors off the roads , i just cant se the goverment enfoircing a law where any car 18 years old must be scrapped,i just sold my 1990 cavalier gsi2000 (future classic car) and it had virtualy no rot and had only had a few bits of welding, far better condition than the average 10 year old ford fiesta,i do rememnber reading a news paper artical years ago at that was saying the way the goverment will get old cars off the road will be to increase the vehicles road tax on higher emmision cars (probaly pre-cat cars ie pre 1992) so olc classic cars that are worth good money will be worth paing the expensive tax on but rotton scrappers just wont be paying the road tax on.sounds more logical to me. i know japan has got a sytem that is to do with emmisions tests and milage hence why the uk ends up with loads of jap import cars. its not worth losing any sleep over in my opinion

going off subject abit but why should higher tax be payed on cars with more emissions after all its not like the goverment spend the money on cleaning the atmosphere tbh i think probly about %20 of all uk laws are an absolute shambles like the bloody fine for not re taxing or sorn'ing a car or bike!!
