Hi guys
Think I have bought a lemon
I have a RD400 engine in a RD250 frame I bought the bike totally blind as it was in Cornwall the bikes got loads of history paint job £1,150 crank , Conrods seals all done but it’s been sat for 2 years in a garage not an issue but after today and doing some research I’m not sure .
I kicked it over last night but could not get a peep out of it so today I did a proper check
Nice fat juicy spark after put new plugs in but after no amount of kicking would it burst into life
I a triples man myself but always wanted an RD wow I thought triple carbs were bad RD carbs are a nightmare
It look like the carbs are 250 they were really gummed ip with old fuel but I stripped and cleaned them and put the back together what’s with the link pipes tiny piece of rubber between both carbs 😬 and the balancing pipe I think that’s what they call it 😜 anyway it started 3 rd kick but would not idle I managed to get some sort of idle the it cut out now down to 1 cylinder so swapped ht lead still same
Is there quicker way to take the carbs off and sort them !!
It took and age connecting everything up
Need some guidance from you experts out there
Cheers
From a very disgruntled Leeds guy

If it’s really in the refusnic stage then it speeds things up by not connecting the air box link rubbers. There are things to check like the float bowls being in the correct side (choke side bowl is different to right side )and the slides in the correct way around, ( means choke side not in the righthand carb etc ) ...clean carbs but with the easy to make assembly errors will have you scratching your head...
