So today I rolled the LC out of the garage for the first time after my first ever ground up rebuild. It has rebored barrels, new pistons and rings, rebuilt crank and all new seals, ultrasonically cleaned carbs with new jets and gaskets but the bloody thing won’t start! There is fuel in the float bowls and fat spark. I’ve also confirmed that the float heights are correct.
All syggestions gratefully received!
Cheers!

Have you removed the spark plugs, can you see/smell any fuel actually getting to them??

I have and the plugs are rather dry... Can’t work out why fuel wouldn’t be getting to the cylinders though. Any ideas?

Have you got the floatbowls on the right carbs?

I am pretty sure I do. I kept each carb separate in its own tray when rebuilding but I guess there is a chance they got swapped around. How can you check?

The choke side has a jet in the bottom, the other doesn't.

Well the carbs are a good place to start, assuming that petrol is actually coming through to them in the first place? Have you checked for a good strong flow at the tap/pipes?? If you have the Haynes manual, page 99 shows float bowl with the jet.

Balance pipe fitted between carbs? I'd also open the carb drain screws to see if there's a good flow rather than a small trickle thats filling the bowls, as suggested above.

I have managed to leave the balance pipe off. Haven’t got to the garage to fit one yet but am curious whether that is fatal to starting success?

It stops the choke working correctly.

I have managed to leave the balance pipe off. Haven’t got to the garage to fit one yet but am curious whether that is fatal to starting success? Well it certainly won't help. The link pipe (ie the small rubber tube between the carbs rather than the larger ally balance pipe) transfers rich mixture from the choke circuit in the left carb across to the right side carb. If it's not fitted, as well as having no choke you will be sucking in extra air making the mixture even leaner.

When I picked my bike from previous owner it was missing, and was a sod to start then ran on one cylinder
Previous owner had tried to run it as was as exhaust was full of petrol!
Hopefully fitting the pipe will fix it

So I verified that the correct float bowl was on the carb with the choke and fitted the balance pipe and, with a squirt of easy start, got it going! Thanks for all the help.
