Hi i have the choice of fitting a complete front end off kawsaki ZX6R g1 RWU 46mm forks (broken a complete bike ) and i have been given a Suzuki GSXR600K5 upper and lower fork yokes and the option to buy the USD forks . This would mean i would have to find a front wheel ,spindle and discs as i have radial calipers . My bike will be standard except better forks/tyres and brakes . Has anybody fitted either especially the G1 front end . Does it stress the frame with the heavier forks ? Any advice welcome

Just finished mine , well nearly with 2006 gsxr radial brake forks. I used the std bottom yoke with a spacer on the stem stop locks need to be changed your steering lock will be reduced. Top yoke I used a gsxr k5 1000 as the ignition switch is located in the middle same as a 4l0, easy mod then you can use the original steering lock . The tab on the frame has to be trimmed up a bit. As regards to the weight. The modern set up I’m sure is lighter because the std Yamaha front end weighs a ton. Hope that helps.

I fitted a 150 but I’m sure Iv seen some fit a 160. Do now how they got on with the chain missing as my chain is close with the 150. Don’t forget as well the modern front ends don’t have a speedo drive.

There is no way a 160 profile tyre is going to fit a standard swingarm. As far as chain clearance you only have to do the maths. A 160 section tyre is exactly that, 160mm wide. If you centralise the wheel (always a good move ) and consider the frame is around 201mm at the swingarm; you have a gap of 20.5mm either side of the frame and tyre. Considering a split link 520 chain is 20.5mm wide you have exactly NO clearance between tyre and frame if the run is correct. As chains tend to wiggle around (even on the drive side) a bit your going to end up sawing into your frame and tyre. 150 gives 2.5mm clearance, but 140 is a better choice. I don’t think even a 140 would fit a standard arm, but I’ve never tried? Jon

Ok thanks for the info i have just bought a Honda CBR400 NC29 swinging arm and will fit that .I think its a better option than the RGV with a longer wheel base .
